Although the CAW voted in favor of the new contract that allows GM to outsource over 300 maintenence and repair positions, and agree to a "flexible assembly" workplace, none of this takes place unless GM decides to make the investment and the Zeta line at Oshawa.
In short, though the agreement between GM and the CAW lays the foundation for the Zeta line and makes it all but certain the cars including Camaro will be made there, it's not yet final and not quite secure.

From what you're suggesting, it sounds like Oshawa is the front runner at this point to make these cars... please correct me if I'm mistaken, but I'm guessing that the restructuring of the Oshawa facility into the 1 plant is part of the Beacon Project... and I believe that GM, when they announced in November that Oshawa #2 was slated to be closed, specifically reiterated that no funds were going to be taken away from that project.
Just trying to figure out how much smoke there is before calling for the fire trucks!

Best regardSS,

You win the cigar!

As for Wilmington, it's going nowhere as far as I can tell & it's getting expanded. I suspect it's for more Kappa, but there is a built in point where Kappa is too expensive to mass produce.
There is a part of Kappa assembly that's done by hand. Because the car was projected to sell at a low number over a relatively short number of years, it was more cost efficient to have workers do this part of assembly than to cough up money for machinary and tooling that could do this. It was a great idea because a new 2 passenger sports car tends to severely drop in sales after the initial 1st few years.
If the Kappa reaches a point where it needs much higher production capacity, it's going to need expensive machinary and major investment to keep up. The plant is already working 3 shifts for just the Solstice (which seems to be filling the volume for all originally planned Kappas), and now the Sky is added, and the Opel GT will begin export soon.
Wilmington I'm convinced was the planned site for the Zeta coupes, and as far as I can tell, still might be. Oshawa #2 ends production of Grand Prix & Lecrosse in 2008CY. Oshawa #1 ends Impala and Monte Carlo in 2009CY. Wilmington is the only GM plant currently capable of easily putting a Camaro on the streets in less than 24 months without disrupting the runs of current cars.
But between the demand for Kappas, the business sense of assembling a coupe (subject to drastic market cycles) on the same line as stable selling sedans, and the new agreement between the CAW and GM over flex assembly and outsourcing, makes it likely that the bigger coupes almost certainly will (and the shorter Camaro seemingly "might") be built up there as well.
We'll know more soon.... I suspect, sooner than we may be expecting.

Ok Guy.Do you know when we will be finding out when everything will be going into motion and be given the greenlight? Possibly the exact dates? Why I want to know...I can't remember I'd have to get back to you on that one.
