Can I drive my car off the assembly line?

PLEASE?!?!?! PLEASE CHEVY!!!

Anyone else want to drive they're new Camaro off the line?

Maybe Chevy should make an option...

We could take care of flying up there, and hotel. Then, we drive it off...into the parking lot and onto a trailer for it to be shipped to us. Unless you want to drive it home of course...

What do you guys think? I'd do it without even thinking about it.

How much would you pay to do it? And would you sign a liability release form?

Holy crap you replied before I even finished building the poll. LOL

I would pay almost whatever. Nothing too insane. And yea, I'd sign a waiver.

Whatever it takes.

Let me get this straight. You would cough up roughly $30,000 for a vehicle, pay for it over the next 4 to 6 years of your life, and you'd be willing to throw all that money into the crapper just to drive the car off the assembly line, past whatever quality control station an onto a trailer, by passing trained professionals whse job it is to notice the slightest thing wrong in the way your car drives, and missing the chance to have it fixed/adjusted/repaired before it even leaves the factory?

Personally, I'd love to go see my car put together. But you can bet the farm that I'm not going to lay hands on my car till everything is done that needs to be done to keep my warranty. If I can drive it from the factory, great. If I need to wait till the dealer makes preps on the car 1st, no problem. But with my own money on the line, I'm going to let the experts do their job 1st.

Afterall, they're getting paid regardless.

One of the motor trend guys custom ordered his mustang and watched them build it. Im sure they troubleshot the car after but he watched it get built. To answer the poll, would I want to yes, would I pay for, no... I would have driven to Delaware to see it but Im not going to Canada!

For the right price almost ANYTHING can happen, but i wouldn't plan on it being cheap, common or even an option you can select. However with GM i've learned never say never .

You can watch your new Corvette get built, and drive it off the line into the wheel allignment booth. Then the Chevy employees take it from there.

Well...what I mean, sorry for being tired, is when it's all ready to be shipped out, let us drive it to the truck.

Atleast some photographer to take pictures of it after it's finished.

Something!

You sure about that? I mean I was there when 5-6 guys picked up their Vette, and 1 C6 Z06, and the cars were all sitting in the Museum delivery area waiting for their owners. They did NOT get to drive them off the line at all! Remeber also that the C6s sit for at least a week outside to make sure the exterior seals all seal properly, if not the car comes back in to get fixed.

Lets also remember that this is a low production specialty coupe whereas Camaro will be a relatively high volume niche 2+2, 100K or so per year vs C6 30K per year.

Would I pay for pickup at the factory, yes, but we won't get the option to drive it off the line.

Re: Can I drive my car off the assembly line?

They let you drive one off the line after you give it "first start". I've never heard of anyone actually getting to drive their own car, but I suppose it's possible, as they do have a deal separate from the Museum delivery where you can go to the plant on the DAY your car is being built (no guarantees you'll see your car though), so it is POSSIBLE that you could catch yours coming off, but I'd say the odds are long. And even if you do, you have to come back in a week for the actual delivery because they DO have to do the prep and everything. Theres probably more detailed info on the museum website.

I personally know someone who did it. He went to the plant on the day his car was getting built (Black C6 ZO6). He watched it go down the line. He kept a sharpie in his pocket and had the employees autograph the car in inconspicuous places as it got built, then he got to give it "first start" and drive it off the end of the line into the allignment booth. His car was the last car off the line that day, so he got very lucky that he was able to see it through completely. There are no guarantees. He did not get to drive the car home. He had to wait for it to get delivered to the dealer, just like normal. He's even got pictures of himself sitting in his partially assembled car on the assembly line!

I'd read about one other guy who lucked out and got to do the same thing on the day he visited. They try to work it out, but it's a crapshoot.

I just wish we could do this and completely cut out the stealership middleman and deal directly with GM.

Re: Can I drive my car off the assembly line?

If I ever buy a new Corvette, I'll definately take the museum delivery option, and I'd love it if there was a similar option for the Camaro.

Of course, other manufacturers like BMW, will allow you to come pick up your car free of charge, drive it around while you vacation in Germany, then put it on the shipping vessel for you and send it to your local dealer, all at no additional charge.
