Camaro Spare Tire - Strange question
Camaro Spare Tire - Strange question
Will the Camaro come with a full size spare, a donut, or a 5th matching wheel with a stock tire?
Or, will we get a donut to drive on when one of the tires on our 300hp+ car goes flat?
This morning, the TPMS system in the GTI keyed me into the fact that a tire was going flat. Sure enough, checked, and it was 20lbs low. I opened up the hatch, and voila! Wow...a full size spare in such a little car. And I didn't have to disassemble the hatch trim or disconnect a speaker wire to get to it
Took 5 minutes to change, and dropped off the flat on my way to work. The car was solid and stable the whole way.
I used to get flats in my Z28 all the time...had those super soft Goodyear Eagle F1's. They attracted nails like magnets and would leave me with a flat about every 3-4 months. Every time I'd have to tear apart the rear hatch. And then drive on the weeee little donut. That big V8 always felt like it was going to rip it to shreds.
Or...will we even get a spare in the new Camaro?

I suspect with 20 inch tires and a limited size trunk you will get Run Flats and a inflation can like in the Vette.
As for F1 Eagles and nails. The softer rubber is a non factor in flats. They are not that soft and the tire is made of several compounds of rubber. It just has more to do with bad luck and where you drive.
Big V8 tires will not tear you spare to shreads if you drive it like it has a donut on it. They are safe tires and can take a lot of abuse but you still have to use you head.
If they did have a full size spare 245/45/20 where would it go?
Yah, I know a donut spare requires very conservative driving in any situation. A donut on a Z28 feels awkward either way. It's just nice to have a tire that feels substantial for your spare.
A 245/45/20 should be around 28.6" in diameter. If Chrysler can get a big huge spare to lay flat on the floor as they do in their police-package LX cars, why couldn't GM design the rear floor appropriately in the new Camaro?
They'll probably leave it out, as indicated, with run-flats.

10 bucks says can of fix-o-flat will be standard and a donught spare will be optional. GM is going in that direction already with their new releases.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the case already with the '08 CTS?

I'll replace the can w/ one of those little mini-pumps. It saved me here at work one night. Went out at midnight, had a slow leak throughout the day, DIC alerted me to it. Instead of swapping tires at midnight, I pumped it up w/ the mini compressor, powered thru the cigarette lighter and it got me home. Pumped it back up in the morning, and went and had it fixed.

I have had two tires leak air, only one of which went flat overnight. In each case I inflated them back to the correct pressure and drove to a tire shop to get them repaired. I have only used the spare when I rotate the tires.
2009 Cobalt SS Turbocharged will be this way as well.
I'm betting either donut spare or NO spare. I seriously doubt we'll see a full sized spare. In fact, you have a better chance of getting b!tch slapped by bigfoot on board a UFO hoovering over the Loch Ness Monster while seeing Hillary win a beauty pagent than getting a full size spare. (Now THEMS some slim odds
