Re: Camaro horsepower/weight poll.

What I wanted to write is already said. 3500/450 is wet dream stuff. We're dreaming our Camaro to be like a Vette...remember, GM wants to sell 100k/year...

It'll be 3850/400 for a Z/28.

Seriously, let's start a pool...

Re: Camaro horsepower/weight poll.

3500/450 easy. Weight imacts a car's dynamics in so many way.
Forget about the numbers, the more weight you've got means changing velocity and direction wil take longer which results in a more and more sluggish feeling, or less and less nimble, whichever way you want to look at it.

The 4th gens are amazing handlers out of the box but in no means feel light on there feet (I've autocrosses an LT1 and LS1 car, you've got to really muscle then around). Look back on every review of the GT500. Sure it puts up impressive numbers, but every review mentions the wieght and how you can feel in in braking and turning. A Corvette giving up a whopping 100 horsepower smokes the GT500 in every catagory.

Weight is an endless circle, either viscious or beneficial.

*Edit* Hell, I'd like to see 3400lbs/400 hp, or 3450lbs/425hp. I know that's almost impossible with new crash regs, but you (should) get my point.

Re: Camaro horsepower/weight poll.

How about I would prefer 3500/500/500, but would still be pleasantly surprised with 3600/450/450.

Re: Camaro horsepower/weight poll.

Think about this....the supercharged STSv gets 106hp/liter. If the LS9 is 6.2 liter, that works out to 660hp. This argument might be more even if the heavier car had a more realistic hp number, 550-600 perhaps. 3500/450 or 3800/550? Now theres a debate!

On my calculator,
3500/450 =7.77777 lbs per hp
3800/500 =7.6 lbs per hp.

500hp wins this particular excersise.

Re: Camaro horsepower/weight poll.

I didn't vote for either combo. There's not enough info yet, nor will there be for a year or more from now, to establish a basis for concluding that either of the alternate choices is even close to realistic. So why bother?

Exactly how much info is required to choose a theoretical personal preference between two choices?

I think the original poster just wanted to see what we'd rather have; a lighter, more nimble sports car, or a ***** out muscle car (ala Shelby 500).

We're just thinking, that's all. Either this, or think about girls...

What if she was 135 lbs. but had DD's???

I wouldn't but I'm just saying what if that's all that was realistic?

I'd want some confirmation that first of all, those are two viable possible choices. Personally, I doubt it's even possible the 5gen might be 3500 lb. (a 2002 TA hardtop lists at 3499 BTW and is 6 inches narrower than the 5Gen Camaro CONCEPT). At the other end, 3800 seems pessimistic. Again, we just don't know enough. Will the 5gen production car have a taller greenhouse? Will it have a 12-disk changer stereo? Stabilitrak? ...all these would be beneficial and make me more likely to favor the heavier choice. But we simply do not yet know.

You have every right to ask the question however you want... just don't be surprised if some folks like me are scratching their heads.

LOL. Quite true. It was a pretty basic, straight-forward question. There actually seems to be very little head scratching going on - and a very INTERESTING pole result so far.

That said....I think you're optimistic on your engine HP - at least for anything other than potential "special edition" stuff.

I disagree. OF COURSE Camaro intenders want their car lighter than 3800. This is a push poll at its finest, written to deliver a foregone conclusion... like a liberal reporter asking people in the street, "do you think the US should end a war effort that's already cost hundreds of lives and not yet delivered a clear and obvious victory?" The knee-jerk reaction will be "sure, stop it now". Me - I'd return the question with some questions of my own. "How much do you value freedom for our friends and allies?" "Shouldn't we instead expand the effort, to include other belligerent countries in the region, who arm and support terrorists?" and so on.

Re: Camaro horsepower/weight poll.

Less weight the better. Horsepower is not enough of a compensation as you woudl need an improve suspension etc to support that extra weight and power.
