Camaro engine

I was talking to someone from my area about the new camaro. This guy works at gm and has quite a bit of 'insider info'. He couldn't tell me too much but he did confirm that the V8 will be a direct injection engine. This may be common knowledge, but I thought I would pass this along.

He also said there are some Camaros in Warren, MI. I hope to see some mules cruising around Detroit!

Well...we knew a DI engine was a potential contender, didn't we? However slight that chance may be. I also think it might be a good time to point out that the Camaro is a Chevrolet. (not done....) And GM is trying to steer Chevy towards being the fuel-efficiency flagship of the company. So - I'm not, and I wouldn't be surprised at all! Just really excited

However, you'll excuse me for not considering this as sealing the topic. But I totally agree...def. some interesting info!
It's the first "My friend told me" update in a while that I think holds some merit!

This guy is a neighbor of mine. He is legit. I don't want to say too much for fear of the Black Suburbans.........

He said he had a spec sheet will all the options for the car. Of course I asked to see it but he said no.

I don't think he realized how much of a camaro freak I was till he came over today to help me move an old tv into the basement. After seeing 4 models if the new camaro in my living room we started to talk about it.

For all those people who cant get a v8 Camaro because of the insurance rate and price, can you ask you neighbor about the v6. Hope there using a DOHC 3.6 L or SOMETHING DI.

What makes this significant is that it was believed that the Gen V smallblock, (the one with direct ignition as well as other technology), wouldn't be ready by Camaro's intro.

Scott mentioned on another site that powertrains have recently been shuffled. Perhaps the Gen V has been pushed up a year or two.

The question for me is, what displacement will the Camaro V8 (SS?) get? 6.2L or 5.XL?

And what of the Gen IV LS8? Does the Z/28 still get it, or will it also go with a higher tech Gen V?

I think the reference to direct injection might have to do with that 2nd V6 option Wasnt it said the baseline V8 will be a v6 instead ?

I think the Camaro will lauch with a 3.6 , 3.6DI and LS3 .....and LS8 to follow later as the top choice .

Who the hell knows anymore.

The conventional wisdom was 3.6/LS3/LS8. But Scott tells us that something has changed recently.

I think that at 306 hp the 3.6 DI is kind of weak sauce to match against the GT & R/T. But the motor is designed for displacements of 2.8 to 4.0L and a 4.0 version (tuned for power rather than refinement) could hit the same 340hp as the 5.7 Hemi.

I am, of course, assuming that the R/T will have the 5.7 and that the GT will get a new v8 that makes similar power.

But the line up I would like to see would be

The old school types would complain, but it would move me from thinking “I might by a loaded base v8” to “I will buy the Top Dawg”.

Hell, I think it would be sweet if all both v8s were replaced with v6es that were faster, lighter and more fuel efficient than the competing Challengers and Mustangs.

Yep, and who's to say it couldn't change again?

I'd imagine that the LS3 and LS8 are dead men walking between tougher emissions, CAFE and the rollout of the Gen V smallblock.

I guess maybe Scotts comment about how the Camaro will have engines we have not seen before . Guess well have to see if that comment was referenced to the time it was said or if that comment applies when the Camaro is released . I think well see the LS3 and the supercharged engines for a couple years anyways .

I wonder what a GDI, VVT, DOHC, 6.2L, Gen V, smallblock might be like? Circa MY '11/'12.

        You forgot AFM

I think it will be very adaptive. Between VVT, and DIG -there should be an abundance of both low-end torque, and high-end power. These Gen V's are my hero.
