Camaro Convertible a GO!

Motor Trend SAYS that the convertible is a go, but I guess the coupe isn't. Where do these guys get this stuff? I think I'm calling BS on MT. If anyone has read it yet. I think it's BS. It reads:

"GM Brass reportedly has approved a convertible version of the forcoming Camaro coupe."

Then they go on to bash the Camaro, because the Zeta-platform is heavy, even it's projected to be 3500 pound. They don't even say anything about the Shelby being close to 4000 pounds. Doesn't everyone love how Motor Trend bashes every American car.
I'am going a little off subject, but you get these Porsche Guys that say the Corvette is cheap, but it does out perform most or all Porsches. Also, they say that the 911 has a more storied past. The Corvette has been called AMERICANS sports car. OK, I'm done!

Re: Camaro Convertible a GO!

If you aren't used to the mainstream car mags criticizing nearly everything the American car companies do (with the exception of the Z06, Ford GT, Viper, and the 300C, which is just a restyled Mercedes with an American engine) by now, then you've got some problems. They only like certain cars - the aforementioned ones, and anything from Honda and Toyota. every other car company (with the exception of the luxury Germans) is utter crap in their eyes.

OK Auto Mags tend to print what they want when they want no matter if its the truth or not.

Re: Camaro Convertible a GO!

Car and Driver's article about the convertible said the convertible will come a couple months after the coupe starts selling in 2006!!!!

I know this is a typo but here's to wishful thinking.

Magazines, which can always retract news or rumors should never be trusted because they're only trying to get you to buy the magazine with ploys like that.

Of course, when it weighs less then the Mustang then they can bash them. They will do a real review, and show that the Camaro with perform better then the Mustang, and that will be the day I can smile at Automotive Mags.

Re: Camaro Convertible a GO!

Ya know the 4th gen was originally engineered as a vert, so that if it had a hard top or not it would be structurally sound. It only made the hardtops that much stronger.

That said, of course the 5th gen will get a vert (I plan to buy one )

However, I still wouldn’t expect it for about 6 months after the initial release, if not longer a little longer. Again think how the Mustang was released.

Verts are usually released to stir interest in a model and we all know the 5ht gen is going to have plenty of that when it is first released.

Not surprised at MT's bashing. ALL mainstream media apparently hates America. Hates Bush, Hates GM, Hates Hates Hates. I'm sick of it. I'm to the point that if it isn't from FoxNews I don't want to hear it. GOD BLESS AMERICA, GOD BLESS THE CAMARO.

I agree, everyone is against america, even americans. but, i saw an article in the detroit free press and one of their reporters got to drive the camaro concept an the GM test track and even though he is against most american cars he praised the concept and he said the same thing in the first and last sentences, BUILD IT! I would buy a vert over a coupe even if i had to wait a model year. everybody knows (or hopes) it is going to be built and it is suppposed to be official this summer. The camaro is going to be built on the Zeta platform like the new GTO, which probably means no Firebird/Trans Am But I agree with motor trend on one thing and that is that they should build a ZL-1 Camaro with the LS7 and a better trans and suspension to compete with the Shelby GT500.

That was Mark Phelan, the article and video were posted here when it came out. Phelan is not against American cars...in fact, I have found that most of his reviews have been quite favorable toward American cars. I think you're thinking of the Leinerts from the Detroit News, the uber-yuppie couple that review cars together. The wife was the one that gave the Cadillac STS a bad review because "the ladies at the beauty parlor love Mercedes and BMW."

Totally agree on everything you just said. What Motor Trend said gives me more reasons not to renew my subscription when it runs out. The magazine has gotten crappy since C Van Tune left as editor and they decided to go with a different look to the mag

Re: Camaro Convertible a GO!

I'm just so torn on what kind of Camaro I'm going to end up getting. Granted, I love the open-air feeling the T-top gives and the Convertible is that much better but at the same time, there's the break-in risk, insurance premiums and if you roll it, you're screwed. Either way, we know the Camaro has been rag-top in the past, we know it will be in the future. It's no breaking news, assuming the Camaro is production bound, that a convertible is to follow.

Re: Camaro Convertible a GO!

If I had a subscription to MT I wouldn't renew it either. It's bad when a American mag that bashes everything American. I was reading the review on the new Esclade, and I didn't even have to see how got first. I know who did. Of course, it's a Mercedes that wins. The Esclade get LAST! No surprise!

Other then that I don't want a convertible anyway. I want to get the hardtop.
