The "solution" is to keep driving it. It isn't hurting anything, the engine still makes great power, gets great gas mileage, and like you said, once its warmed up, you hear nothing.

Very true. Some can't be fixed. My question though is that these cars are built and then driven for an extended period of time how do these quirks get past testers and R&D? Tight timetable? Do they just run performance tests? Or does someone simply say to hell with it, under normal circumstances that should never happen?

Point is that alot of the cars on this site and others have fairly low mileage and even though they are beat on more than some, the owners pay attention to and are in tune with their car. These vehicles that are meticulosly maintained by gearheads have no reason to run into the common problems.

Im so sick of hearing the word "green" to describe cars.....

Unless it's going on a Barris Kustom, I won't lose sleep over not hearing it again before I die.

I don't think the issue SHOULD be with CAFE but rather **** poor buisness. When you go to congress as a company and beg for money to save the company, brand new cars don't make much sense. They already stated that GM produced 60 models and turned a profit on only 30. So GM revives a car that died due to poor sales and innability to meet new standards and whiile they were at it wanted to see what kind of corvette they could build for 100K. I'm not a CEO or genius by any means but that makes no sense. From that standpoint more cars should get axed and less brand new ones being built.

Everyone else can worry about the government and CAFE. I'm more worried about the snake oil salesmen behind the desk.

PS- If you buy a new GM car or not in the coming years you'll still be paying for them. Where do you think uncle sam is going to get the coin to payback his loans?
No need to strap on a flame suit Eddie. You are speaking from fact instead of fear.

Fact is the General Motors would be filing for bankruptcy this very moment if it wasn't for the Government steping in. GM got to this point because of nearly a decade of bad (and sometimes absolutely horrendous) business decisions, not 3 months of frozen credit (that has affected every car maker).

There are going to be people who are going to ignore that simple fact, and are going to look at the government as the cause of everything (even when it's that very same government that's saving them). Some are going to feel that taxpayer money should be just handed over with no government oversight, despite that carmaker's proven history of being unable to make a profit and inability to reform itself quickly.

That's just the way people are.

Fact is, the Federal Government has given GM and Chrysler backed loans with taxpayers providing the backing.

Fact is that there will be a so called Car Czar making sure GM and Ford return to profitability.

Fact is that instead of GM and Chrysler going through liquidation before this summer (let alone years end) or being bought up by China, these 2 automakers have a chance to rebuild themselves.

Anything outside of these facts is just opinion or just automatic government fear.

That's not mindlessly believing government... that's simply NOT mindlessly believing in failed business models from entities that wouldn't be around this morning (and most certainly would take Camaro and alot of good future products) with it.

You don't need a flame suit for that Eddie.... just a bit logic.

My Government "fear" is that every time we do something like this, we get further and further away from that little document known as the Constitution.

You may have heard of it.

Call it however you see it...it was NEVER the government's place to use MY money to quite literally ensure the survival of a private corporation - and in so doing, having a say-so in how said not-so-private corporation is run.

GM is not a private corporation, Chrysler on the other hand is.
