Back Up Lights

Has Anyone Brought Up That The Concept Car Has No Back Up Lights And Where Should They Be Located At The Rear Of The Car? If This Has Been Previously Discussed I Apologize.

Re: Back Up Lights

The reverse lights are located directly above the exhaust tips, behind the grill on the rear bumper. They are LED type lights and cant really be seen unless they are on. I have a pic of them from the auto show this week, but I dont have a way to host it. I will try to find one for ya.

Re: Back Up Lights

the concept does have backup lights, they are hidden right above the exhaust tips behind the mesh... you won't see them unless they are on. I think that's a pretty cool touch.

Re: Back Up Lights

Dont sweat those details, since much of the rear would have to be redone for OE. Those LED reverse lights wont meet FMVSS regs. Neither would the exhaust tips. FMVSS regs require the exhaust tips to extend 1.5 inches past the body.

Re: Back Up Lights

They are brighter than they look, but definatly wont work on a production model. I do, however, like the placement and stealthyness of the lights. I hope they can keep the general idea on the production version.

Yeah I noticed that at the Dallas Auto Show about those lights above the exhaust.

Re: Back Up Lights

They look awesome. They don't come on that often in the light show. I didn't see them until very late in the day and despite all my waiting never saw them come on again for a picture.

LED's are quite bright for thier size and that spot woudl prbly work if they back 'em out more toward the back more.

Untrue, at least based on the exhaust tips that are on new cars right now - just to name one example that comes to mind - 2006 Mercedes E350s have hidden turndowns that don't protrude beyond the bumper, they're actually just behind the bumper. Same with the 2006 BMW 750i, and others.

Not to quibble, but if the exhaust pipes come through the rear fascia, then it needs 1.5". Look at the rear of the Carrera GT2.

Both cars you mentioned use turndowns. The pipes do not pass through the fascia.

Re: Back Up Lights

While on the subject of what the concept doesn't have, I noticed at the Atlanta show that it doesn't have a windshield wiper motor either! Of course, we all know that the engine compartment will never go to production looking like it does. Still, it looks funny to see something so obvious missing.
