axel option?????
axel option?????
Is there any chance of getting the option of a solid rear or IRS? Or are we just going to have to deal with IRS? Dont get me wrong I like them both. The IRS is cool on the vette but when i was under 350hp there was some unwanted wheel hop. Now that im over 450hp it just blows the tires off. So i guess if i have to have IRS ill just up the Hp so i dont have wheel hop. Ok well enough said.
thx

It would take some $$$$ to develope, but maybe after the car takes off, they could design a series of mounts/brkts., that would mnt. a standard axle in place of the IRS? Make it a future option for the car. I'm sure they could sell a ton of such a "conversion kit" (over the counter, at your local GM dealer to help pay for its developement
). As well as for all the 5th gen-ers who wish to do some drag racing, or to put way more power to the ground than the IRS will take. It would certainly add another + for the Camaro over the competition!

With the platform engineered from the get-go to use an independent rear, chances are slim to none that any form of "bolt in/on" kit will ever be devised to mount a live axle. It would likely take a full-on race-style backhalf job to get it in there.
It's simply going to be easier to beef the existing rear to take more abuse than it is to weasel out and slam a 12 bolt in there.
Personally, I dont have a problem with that.

For me it all depends on how the IRS is. I'm very happy iwth the IRS in my 91 Corvette. It grips well, handles great, and guys have run down into the 10s with them before finding it necessary to convert to a solid axle.
But if they put that glass POS from the CTS into it, or some other under engineered POS, then it'll make the whole car suck.

Anyway, the Camaro will be getting a different IRS that Sigma. But hopefully the lessons learned from Sigma will be applied.

Re: axel option?????
Who wants live axle?
It sucks compared to IRS, i mean, seriously, the only thing it is good for is drag racing.
THATS IT. If you want to drag the car, then do a swap, but i do not think it should even be an option.

Hey (im the new one)
I see a big problem with a solid rear: The drive shaft tunnel is much further down (full rear row, not splitet like on the other Camaro Generations) on the IRS set-up. The Fuel-Tank-"Bridge" is also above the Driveshaft. Unless you remove all dampening (Springs and Shocks), the Driveshaft will knock onto the Tunnel and Fueltank.
Besides that Problem: I don't think Holden Sports Vehicles will alow Wheelhop on thair brand new 410Hp Zeta-baby.

the tunnel on a IRS car is just that, and tunnel that is just big enough to fit a spinning shaft, not tall to fit a spinning shaft that also moves up and down
it will have a fuel tank that crosses the tunnel, along with the floor contoured very shallow in the tunnel area
