6th gen Camaro confirmed?

From the Cheryl Pilcher interview:

CZ28: Is there any way to tell how the new government regulations will impact future Camaro models? If so, can there be a possibility of it being in a good way?

Cheryl: The new CAFÉ fuel economy regulations concern me. It will be a challenge and I'm hoping that GM will be up to that challenge with the next generation of Camaro!

Might just be referring to the 5th generation since it hasn't technically came out yet.

I don't think she's talking 6th gen - the sales and performance of the 5th gen will give GM some ideas on what the market will support. Also, the 5th gen is an all new platform, which will likely be the basis for the 6th gen - even if it's tweaked. If that platform proves flexible enough during the 5th gen's life (at least 5 years), and the market supports the car at all powertrains, that will be the basis for GM's post-CAFE strategy with the car - and will determine if a 6th gen happens. I would be VERY surprised if GM were thinking 6th gen right now when the Volt and other game changers are (relatively) right around the corner.

Not confirmed...but looked forward to, perhaps?

The way I read that quote, the "next generation of Camaro" she was referring to was the 5th-gen Camaro.

Not confirmed by a long shot.

At this point they are worried about getting the 5th Gen out.

As for a 6th Gen time will tell. I would expect those who are in development of new future platforms are looking at what platforms can be packaged with what cars.

Case in point The new Alpha platform is being looked at for several cars and with the new CAFE it may have some more added platforms it may need to support.

Long term proposals are all they are tossing now.

Untill a proposal is made and a buiness case is approved nothing will be confirmd. With that said it will be a while before we need to worry about any 6 gen.

With the lack of rules on CAFE and many needed changes that will result everything is on the table right now from models, platforms and power trains.

Just sit back and enjoy the 5th gen for right now. Let those behind the the Sheetmetal curtain of Detroit worry about the future.

I could see how Cheryl's answer could be interpreted as 6th Gen Camaro potential if you're of the belief that the 5th Gen is already known and ready and that it many have a short production run that won't take it into the real CAFE crackdown years. Or that GM is aware the Zeta based Camaro is too heavy to abide by CAFE rules and a new and lighter 6th Gen would be needed if the name is to carry on.

But I think she was just talking up the excitement and issues facing the Next Camaro: 5th Gen.

... or "all" future generations of Camaro. Heck as CAFE doesn't fully kick in until 2020, perhaps she was talking about the 7th gen Camaro.

7th gen will just be a hold over, 8th gen is the one you gotta watch for.

The could be required to make 30 MPG by 2015. Bush will make a speach on Tuesday to reafirm that his admistration supports eviromental friendly policy.

The rules are not written but they can kick in slowly each year till 2020.

Watch what is said on Tuesday and we will have a little more idea what the Washington dreamers have cooked up.

30 MPG by 2015 is achievable IMHO.

Think smaller, more efficient, higher revving V8s.
