4.9 DI Engine From Denali XT...maybe?
4.9 DI Engine From Denali XT...maybe?
Ill throw it out there, get the input from everyone.
What do you think fellas? 326hp in a twin mode system, a 4.9 liter engine with direct injection? Could this be the new small engines that Wallace was talking about? Using its direct injection, this makes hp equal to the 5.3 in a smaller package will probably maintaining or increasing gas milage while reducing carbon footprint.
Anyone think we can expect this engine as an option? Not with the hybrid powertrain, but the engine itself?

As I was Waiting for my wife to decide on some jewelry in the mall last night and I came across the Denali XT info on Autoblog -thank goodness for blackberrys- Of course my first thought was... this engine could definitely be the rumored DI v8 for the Camaro!
But if it does find its way into the camaro, the output would probably have to be around 375hp considering the following two probabilities: First, the DI v6 will have around 300 hp. Second, the Mustang and Challenger will also have around 350-375 in their boss & hemi engines.
Anybody know if they are working on larger version of the DI engines? I'm sure its been mentioned in one of the engine threads at some point.
I'm still hoping the base v8 is the LS3!

Will the Camaro come with a Gen IV smallblock or Gen V at intro? I don't know. But when the Gen V comes - the Gen IV will be history.
I went and did some digging on the 2009/10 Mustang at autoblog, jalopnik, mustang evolution, etc.... the predictions are all over the place ~ umm, that sounds like our board for the camaro ~ anyways, the rumors start with keeping the 4.6L as the base v8, to replacing it with a new 5.0, to the boss 5.7 which would be shared with the F-150?! So, its a crap shoot!
The 2009 F-150 also gets a new 4.2L v8, but they haven't disclosed any hp figures for any of the 2009 v8's.
You know, had you asked me 6 or 12 months ago, I would have been fairly confident of Camaro's powertrain line up. I can't really say that anymore.

Yeah, the Challenger is definitely going to weigh over two tons... only so much dieting you can do to the 300/charger/magnum platform

They worked, and showed a working concept of it. At a recent debut of GM Powertrain show, GM showed off several different technologies. One was HCCI, diesel type ignition for gas engines, and a direct injected L92 making "Over 450hp" in a Caddy Escalade.
Thats over 50hp off a 403hp L92. Imagine that type of boost on an engine with an engine that has a 30hp jump over the L92. We could talk about a 500hp DI 6.2 engine, and something that would make Charlie smile from ear to ear about.
Give me a 500hp DI 6.2 over a 500hp SC 6.2. I wonder the cost difference between the LSA vs a DI 6.2? The weight difference might be worth the justification to go DI if in case DI is more expensive. And if DI is cheaper...well...thats just silly to but a big honkin blower on top of the engine.
The R/T version of the Challenger will be in the low $30's right? Somewhat comparable to the Camaro.

BTW, the LS9 adds 100 pounds over the LS3.
Maybe it can still pass...maybe.
I'm not sure what the specifics are. But don't expect all the new tech on the GenV smallblock to get us much if any more power. Emissions tuning will gobble that up. I think at this very moment, we've peaked on horsepower for awhile
