327 Badge for LS4 model
327 Badge for LS4 model
I really would love to see a 327 badge available with the LS4. I know the LS4 is only about 323 CI but 327 would help give the engine a name, kinda like "hemi" for Dodge. RS 327.
I also think that it should be used for the other engines...

Re: 327 Badge for LS4 model
Ya, I said the same thing about the LS7 and "427" badges...
I think it would be cool.
Some people will say that 323 doesn't = 327... or even 427.6 rounds up to 428... to them I say the 1969 396 was actually a 402.

Stayed "396" in Chevelle, but was called "400" in the full size cars - so they were BOTH actually inaccurately named vs. actual displacement.
And of course the famous "5.0" Mustang was always a 4.9 liter and the 1967 GTO switched from 389 to 400 but retained the famous "6.5 Litre" fender badges. So there's certainly precedent.

Remember the uproar and legal threats when buyers found out horsepower was less than advertized? Just wait till people find out their engine is smaller than advertised.

Giving more than advertized (as in the 402/396 situation, or underrating horsepower is fine. But giving less and you are looking at lawsuits from hell.
REALLY bad idea (not considering 327s...unlike Hemis... weren't that great in it's era).

I suppose you have a pretty good point right there.
It's a different sue-happy world now-a-days.
I guess it's not so bad if you understate the cubic inches... (ie 396 that is really a 402, or a 427 that is really a 427.6 (though I still say that you could just say you truncated instead of rounded
)But, I suppose you could run into issues if you overstate a 323 by calling it a 327...
Re: 327 Badge for LS4 model
You could do like in the computer industry and give the engine a 327 marketing name (sort of like how an Athlon 64 3000 doesn't run at 3.0GHz, but is supposed to be equivalent to an imaginary one that does).
Re: 327 Badge for LS4 model
Check this....GM is already lying about the cubic inch dispacement of th 5.3L!
Chevrolet.com has it listed as 327 CID and GM Canada has it as 325 CID---which is correct (its not 323 I am surprised no one caught that)
US has really bad (wrong) info on thier site on several vehicles.
But they should put a 327 badge on. I always liked that engine

Re: 327 Badge for LS4 model
Then why doesn't my 4.8L Tahoe have a "283" badge?
Because its a stupid idea that's why. Everyone else in the industry uses Liters now instead of cubic inches. Heck the "283" has more heritage than the "327". However from Camaro's standpoint, they should build a 5.7L aka "350" for it... after all it was Camaro that gave birth to the 350 and the majority of V8 Camaros throughout the car's lifetime have been "350"s.
But you know something? The 5.7L LS1 is no longer offered in a new car. So why even go there?
What's wrong with an "LS4" badge? Or what's wrong with displaying the actual displacement in Liters?

When the '99 Pickups were coming around dealers were telling everyone the cubic inch was "327" and that seems to excite everyone I have talked to since the numbers are so catchy together. Its like saying 328i to a BMW fan.
It's just a word association (ok, number association lol) that people who are familiar with Chevy can use for product identity.
I just wanna think back and say that even when the trucks were shown in showrooms and public venues that they always had a stand-up plaque that noted any truck with a 5.3L to have "327" cubic inches. Go to the Chevy website and look at Silverado's engine specifications under LM7.

So are you saying it cant be used in non-FWD cars?
Re: 327 Badge for LS4 model
I'm with stars on this one, enough is enough.
1.Chevy badge (in grill)
2.Camaro badge (on nose)
3.Camaro name (on side of car)
4.GM badge (below Camaro name)
5.model declaration badge (Z/28, SS, etc.)
5.325 badge (would appear below Camaro name)
6.Dealer badge
That's too much...A car should need to be advertised

Re: 327 Badge for LS4 model
Sorry about the 323, I used a cheat formula. Using a better formula gets 324.99 Cubic inches.
Wasn't the 5.7L LS1 in the Camaro advertised as a 350 instead of 346?
The vortec and the LS4 both have the same bore and stroke but the vortec is listed as 327 and the LS4 is 325.
I prefer the cubuc inch over liters...just my preference.
