2012 ss

I am in the market for a 2012 ss, but i am having trouble getting the early details. I understand a HP bump and update interior my be forthcoming.

I have done my googles, but don't find much for the SS.

any details would be appreciated.

thx

Re: 2012 ss

I have no idea if it will happen or not, but I'm sort of assuming the SS will see some of the interior updates that were previewed in the ZL1 at the auto show. Things that jumped out to me at quick glance:

1) Revised steering wheel (likely not alcantra-covered in the SS, but the new shape / size might become common).
2) New shifter shape, which seems to be more "normal" is design.
3) New inlay running the width of the main body of the dash. Again, in the ZL1 this was alcantra, but I can see the SS using leather or some other material. It basically just serves to visually break up the vast expanse of plastic that runs from the gauge cluster all the way to the passenger door.

There may be others, too. As I said, these were previewed in the ZL1; the SS may or may not get these changes (or others).

I don't know anything about any extra power or suspension changes.

Re: 2012 ss

Anything you've heard about a 2012 SS is just a rumor at this point. It's safe to assume there will be one, and that it will be for the most part very similar to the 2010-2011 models, with only minor updates -- but even that is just an assumption.

Re: 2012 ss

i doubt the SS gets the same steering wheel as the ZL1. even with out the suede, i think it will still have the round steering wheel.
i dont see too many changes to the 2012 though. i think its going to stay pretty simple and then drastically change for the 6th gen alpha platform.

Im assuming for once the changes are staying pretty hush hush. I do not think you saw an accurate representation of the 2012 interior in the ZL1. That is again, just an opinion

I believe it was even reported that the ZL1 prototype did not have the final interior.

Re: 2012 ss

I was just left with the impression the ZL1 showcar wasnt giving away to many 2012 at all. Kinda like 2011, with ZL1 parts and a pretty dressed up interior . I thought, I could be worng, I remember them saying that they didnt really wanna show the car as early as they did.

That would be fine with me. I wouldn't mind a few more changes, to be honest. But I've just been suspecting that the rumored 2012 interior changes would be pretty minimal in the grand scheme of things, and the ZL1 had some pretty minimal (but effective, IMO) changes.

Personally I'd like the instrument cluster to be totally redone. That is, not just new fonts (which are badly needed) on the gauges, but an actual redo of the shape and location of the cluster. When I drove a 2010 Camaro LT for a few days (rental), I found that if I put the steering wheel down where I'd like it, it blocked a good chunk of the speedo / tach displays. The new ZL1 steering wheel is far less odd looking, but I wonder if it will make the obstruction problem even worse. I also think the big expanse of dash from the instrument binnacle to the passenger door needs some help, which the ZL1 seems to have gotten. I wouldn't mind if the radio / hvac setup changed, as well. Basically, for me the dash is just currently. It wouldn't keep me from getting the car (save for the possible deal-breaker of the wheel blocking the gauges), but it doesn't turn me on either. Gotta give props for keeping it very unique and showing real Camaro heritage, but...

Still kind of early for info on the next model year. Most likely in the next couple of months real solid info will be released.
