[Paint & Body] Why Flat Black Stripes???
Why Flat Black Stripes???
Does anyone know why GM decided to make the black stripes matte? I ordered victory red with the black rally's after seeing a 1970 chevelle in this combo and it looked classic. The matte stripes just don't do it for me. I wanted to get them painted but I did not think that the painter could get the radius of the outside edge of the stripes right so I ordered the decals. I heard that you can clear over vinyl decals. Would that give them a normal glossy look or would it just look like a slightly matte finish? I'm really disappointed about this.
I hope I don't offend anyone with black stripes, they still look good, just not what I was hoping for.

i wouldnt suggest clearing over the stripes. flat black is how alot of muscle cars did it back in the 60's and 70's. just getthem painted on if you dont like the matte look. i actually like the matte look. i wanted to put matte black stripes on my black ss.i think it would look sick.
What I'd really like to have is carbon fiber fenders painted black to match the car with clear hockey stripes to show the CF!
I think the flat black stripes are said to hold up better then the gloss when done in vinyl.
Since my GTO sits outside, I did mine in flat black and they look great! Very classic being red with the black stripes.
If anyone wants to see, send me a PM and I can send a picture.

I like gloss black on red, it just goes better IMO. I really wanna see flat black stripes on a black SS though, especially in the Convertible style striping. I've looked on other boards and haven't seen any yet. Be sure to post pictures if you do this!
