do you guys think the new camaro is going to be offered with t-tops? that should be almost a production car must have feature. as the owner of a 1989 camaro RS 305 i would say i probably wouldnt have bought my particular car if it didnt have the t-tops. i would have looked for another third gen with t-tops, i cant compare riding with my t-tops down on a nice sunny day or into a sunset is awesome. nothing can compare to that. the t-tops are unique to several models of cars every offered. it has always been something of the "coolness" of the camaro. a convertable would also be a nice option, but i would rank t-tops over convertable option in importance.

 

T-top are not going to happen, sorry, been talked about here times over the past year, do a search if you want to read up on the situation.

As far as ttops, I think its really stupid not having something that something like 80% of 4th gen cars were ordered with. They need some type of middle ground between hardtop and convertible, at least IMO. (And I don't mean sunroof)

 

After following many posts on here for many months t-tops are very unlikely, which is why i will not even consider a 5thgen. I still hope the car is very successfull but i will not buy it without t-tops.

 

I had Ts in my 91 and I enjoyed them as well.........however, I can't see them on this car, especially, if the roof remains the same. And like they say, check the other posts for more, but, we'll have to wait and see what the General has in store when he brings our "Pal" back to us.

 

I don't mean to hijack, but what happened to the rumor of the T-top Mustang. I know the refresh has been pused back a year or so. I wonder if this had any validity...

 

I know it would be nice to see a targa top like the vette's have.

I'd also rather have a Targa top than the T-tops. I'm also not going to let the lack of T-tops deter me from buying a Camaro, they're just not that important to me. They're nice, but not a selling point for me. As for how they work with the roofline, the 80 something Monte Carlos had T-tops and that roofline didn't exactly lend itself well to T-tops...looked funny. I'd rather not see them on this car if it came out looking like this:



Note: I am not saying the Camaro resembles the Monte Carlo in any way other than the square roofline...much different from the curved look of the 4g camaros.

Targa would be nice but I don't see how a Targa is more structurally sound, integrates better into the roof or any of the other things people are saying will prevent T-Tops from being on the car.

It is a little disappointing to know that we probably have seen the end of t-tops.

Two of my three have had t-tops and when I've looked into buying a 4th gen recently I've passed up every one that didn't have t-tops.

I've always thought that I was sure about buying a 5th gen, but I wonder now how much this would play a part in my decision. I've owned a few cars with sun/moon roofs and it's nowhere near the same... In part I guess I associate F-Bodies with the open air feel of the t-tops being off.

Maybe a convertible is in my future, I've just never been really big on them to be honest.

 

Yep been talked about.

I had a 97 w/ t-tops, and barely used them. My 2002 doesn't have them, and now I miss the option of having them. However, on a car with rear quarter windows like the 5th gen, it's not only visually questionable, it's a structural engineering nightmare.

Boils down to reduced roof strength (the 2nd to 4th gen had massive "b" pillars), la lack of ong term wind noise and rain resistence (lack of substantial "b" pillars mean more roof flex over time), and weight (to accomplish all of this, it's going to need alot of roof reinforcements).

Wasn't an issue on body-on-frame cars like the GM B-bodies, or F and Y bodies that had plenty of natural reinforcement at the b-pillars.

Hopefully, the new Camaro (like the Challenger) will have roll down rear windows. I think that would be just as nice.

I expected it out for the 2007 model year, and was wrong.

 

T-tops died with the rest of the stereotype.

The car has evolved and moved on. Live with it.
