Backup Sensors

When in the production run were backup sensors installed on the Camaro? I notice that cars that don't have backup sensors have a emblem on the lower front fender. Anybody know the story on this?

I didn't think they were in production yet. What badge are you referring to?

The badge is behind the front wheels. about the size of a quarter. Your car being an early production car must have them. I dont know the production date of my car (maybe last fall) but it has backup sensors and no badge.

They are nicknamed Chicklets lol. GM has stopped putting these on the Maro and also the GM Performance Division badge under the hood has been dropped. Not sure when they started not putting the badges on but my car is a late 23K car and it has the chicklets and badge under the hood with no backup sensors.

Okay, now I got it. Here's the basic explanation...
  • 2010 Camaro - No backup sensors, first and last year of 5th gen Camaro with the GM "chicklet" badge no the side (I think thinking about removing mine)
  • 2011 Camaro - First year of backup sensors, no GM "chicklet" badge on the side

Some of the 2010s have the backup sensors though. They havent started making the 2011s yet. Its just the later models of the year is getting them.

Yes, I was actually just corrected today on that when we recorded CamaroZ28.Com Podcast #230, which we talked about this thread in.

Do the 2010 models with the backup sensors not have the "chicklet"?

Most that I have seen do not have the chicklets or the GM Performance Division badge under the hood.

Here is a pic of a friends car that he picked up earlier this month. Notice no "chicklets". Also from talking to him he has the backup sensors as well.

Yeah because of the bankruptcy stipulations it was said that GM had to disban that particular division so those badges are not being applied anymore.

Well that makes all kinds of sense.

Tell your friend that his car looks awesome, BTW. Tell him to join the community here!

I am considering removing mine, actually. I have kicked it around since I got it. I think I will when I take it out of storage this April.
