Drove a Mercedes E500 sport today...

Silver w black leather; 302 HP 3 valve, SOHC motor, 5 speed tiptronic auto, computer controlled suspension and braking; this car is as quick to 100 as my SS, or at least felt like it, handled like a Vette, and was as quiet and composed as a bank vault, all for about 60K. Absolutely awesome car! I wish any US brand would come out with any car at any price that could even sniff the exhaust pipes of this car and have anywhere near the quiet comfort as well. I don't think US automakers are talented enough to do it. Period.

P.S.--I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it...

The car cost over $60,000......what do you expect!! You generally get what you pay for. I don think the big 3 are real interested in that price segment.(maybe Cadillac)

About 59K, MSRP. They should be interested in this segment and above--markups are much higher, and it reflects well on your brand and cpy to make a truly great car. Lutz has said recently that Cadillac will never again be upstaged--if he means it, here is where you start--you need to out-Mercedes Mercedes.

One of the reasons people shun Ford is that it started as an everyman's car cpy. While that legacy is foolish today, it still nips at Ford's heels. Some people on this board reflect this view from time-to-time. If you want to be viewed as the best, you must compete--look at VW's new Phaeton. They may not sell many, but it will put VW in the game and will enhance their image. Also, what is learned from building a great car can help with design and manuf. of lesser cars as well.

those new caddies are gaining popularity--not the escalades, but the sedans or what not--with the nice chrome grills...not just cars for old folks anymore!
