Best way to take off side molding on a 97 Camaro???
The paint on the side molding on my 97 SS is starting to fade bad. The paint on the rest of the car is great, but this is starting to look lousy for some reason. Anyway, I can save myself some $ if I just take it off and give it to my body guy because he says that it takes some time to do. Has anyone ever taken off the side molding? I know it is pretty much double sided tape, but I don't want to just start yanking on it. Should I use any paint safe chemicals or certain tools?

i think if you heat it up it comes off even easier, mine came off easy enough i didnt worry about it, but im pretty sure ive read about other people doing that
Fishing line and a heat gun, or good hair dryer on a hot day will get them off, then 3M adhesive remover and follow by your wax of choice and it should look like they were never there.
I used a hairdyer and heated the molding for a couple minutes and pealed mine back very slow! About 90% of the glue came off, still had to put some SeaFoam BUGS B GONE remover on it. Glue came off with no problems (stuff is great). Waxed it with NXT and you can not tell they were even there.
Pulling will damage/stretch it and then when you go to reinstall it, it won't look right.
Be VERY careful...use a strong fishing line, or if you're good, a plastic putty knife or something to get under there to pull apart the glue.
How much is it for new ones? Might be easier to just buy them again, have them painted (little to no prep!) and stick 'em back on the car.

they come prepainted from gm i know cuz i had to buy a new set from gm for my 98 z28 its easier just remove them and buy new ones cuz getting them off in one piece with out being stretched out is impossible
