is it cheaper than a 9 inch.......... is the 8.8 worth the build ?

 

Do a search! You'll find out that its not really cost effective. The only guy on here that has built one spent a lot of time on it and said it would of been easier to just go 9". You could easily build a budget 9" cheaper than you could a budget 8.8 and it would be stronger.

8.8 ford is a waste of time, bout the same as a 12 bolt and you can't beat the price on one you just bolt in

 

I resent that remark. Coming from an engineering back ground my 8.8" was NOT a waste of time. At the time, I was a poor college student and couldn't spend $2400 for a 3-channel ABS 12-bolt with a good carrier. My 8.8" retained ABS and allows me to launch the crap out of my car. Being I built it, my price wasn't all that bad. I wouldn't suggest it to someone as a good project, but it's not a waste of time if done correctly.

my opinion is...if your an engineer fabricator or whatever...what did it take for you to get to that point? school tolls etc. Now is your time worthless? o.k. so let me be conservative and say your skills and knowledge itself are worth $30 per hour not including parts what do you have in that rear.

The rears are proven winners but i would not waste my time to swap one over when you can just order one, i understand you want to save a buck in school and you also need to realize most people don't have the skill etc. you may have and tools also. I hope you didn't take me reply the wrong way, For the majority of people its just easier to bolt one in than fab a new set-up like you did

 

Okay, I did take it the wrong way, but NOW after reading your last response... I agree 100% with what you're saying. I know I'm happy with my 8.8" and the few I've built for friends they're all happy, but if starting from scratch and wanting to build an 8.8", it's not worth it if you put any value on your time.
