About the crappy rides. I bet it's for insurance. Primary driver 1974 vega. Secondary driver; Lambo and F40.
Still as rich as those guys are, so what.

I'm famous!

<---

BTW, just because Recaro won the bid doesn't mean they were the lowest bidder. It means that the Camaro team decided that the seats Recaro said they would build had a better value than the seats Lear said they would build.

Let's say Lear mocks up a decent seat and says they'll sell them to GM for $500 each (making up a price, I have no idea what's realistic). And then Recaro mocks up an excellent seat and says they'll sell them for $600 each. GM doesn't automatically pick Lear (although this may have been the practice in the past) -- they look at the two different seats and try to decide if the Recaro is worth $100 more and evaluate whether that value will be important enough to Camaro buyers to justify the additional price.

GTO and Cobalt SS have Recaro seats, and they're better than any Lear seat I've experienced. Sounds to me like GM has their priorities straight for their performance cars, which bodes well for Camaro (IMO).

as far as everything ive heard, JCI has the camaro seats...and your explanation is totally off, you have NO idea how auto purchasing works at an OEM...first GM gives a statement of work which tell all about the timing and the features/sketches of what the seats are supposed to look like, then the companies submit quotes to the proposed design and then the OEM will source someone and they build it

but he isn't totally off on it. Why wouldn't they want the much better product if the cost is marginally more than a company thats product isn't as high in quality. I wouldn't think its always the lowest bidder that gets it.

I have no idea? In fact, I'm quite familiar with that process. Familiar enough to know that it's not the relevant part to this conversation.

All of the things you said are true. But Lear takes GM's statement of work and works something up to represent what they're going to build to comply with it. Recaro, JCI, and any other OEMs solicited by GM will do the same thing.

GM doesn't just buy blindly from whichever OEM bids lowest on the SOW. That would be stupid.

figured I would start a thread in the 2009 Camaro Interior Discussion forum. If you want you can copy your posts there or maybe someone can merge the two figure it was only appropriate to have this discussed there
