I wonder where the ragtop 5th gen is???

So the rumor is we get to see a convertible 5th gen at Detroit this year and that is under 2 months from now. So I wonder if it is done and floating around some where or still being assembled? Now some questions for the board experts -

1. Do you think it will be identical to the orig concept or carry more production characteristics?

2. Do you think they will go with a running drivetrain (I would)?

3. How many copies will they make for the autoshow circuit (it better make it to Dallas )?

If the answers are obvious I apologize, but I do not know the answers.

I don't think we'll see a ragtop until at least NAIAS '07, maybe even '08.

Yeah, Scott dropped it off here last week for some pics along side my 72. Ill post them up as soon he sends them to me via email.

Id like to see it have a running powertrain, but I think for concept...that maybe they could wow us all and bring it out with a hard top!!

wouldnt it make sense to alter the car slightly in the direction they are thinking toward production? Gauge feedback to see if they are going in the right direction? Especially with the interior which I think would be pretty different.

Not that I know but thats my guess

That is what I'd like to see, more so than a modified exterior anyway. IMO the interior is what will ultimately go through the most drastic change. I'd like to see a closer to production view of what it is going to look like. My only thought is that if they were to do something like this it may turn some people off to the car before 2 years before production if they don't have it "quite right" yet. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

A convertible would be perfect for showing off a newly redesigned interior. No roof to get in the way of the camera.

Very good point. I think the interior will be changed, I just wonder how much. It would be nice to see working guages, audio or even maybe a satnav. I even think it would be cool to see an automatic (maybe some paddle shifters) for it, since a vert is usually your cruising version.

Seems like we had a pic somewhere of a dashpad or dash hull that appeared a little different and more production capable. Maybe we'll see that pad and the changes around it in Jan.

I recall people mentioning a few new interior parts on the Bumblebee Camaro but someone else pointed out that they were part of the GTO donor car. Was that the pic in question?

After what happened last NAIAS, I'm thinking if a pic is leaked before this year's NAIAS, someone will die...

I'm not big on vert's but I'd love to see a redesign of the dash.

Those other pics that floated around (there probably still around in the Interior forum) were of the concept's interior (not the Saleen/Transformers GTO-maro) but rendered in a more "production" appearance. However, they still had a very close resemblance to the concept (not much change, other than finish/materials/appearance).

As for the 'Vert concept? It's probably hiding down-under still . It won't surprise me to see pictures of it before NAIAS, but it won't surprise me NOT to see pictures before either!! (black Suburbans, anyone? )

.....*on a side note* ..... who thinks "Chronicles of the Black Suburbans" will be a chapter in Scott's book??!!

that was the same conclusion i came to. and that as the interior is supposed to be redesigned i'd say those pics are pretty much useless as to what the final thing is gonna look like

thad be great. itd also be very informative to the average joe who doesnt follow the industry as much especially if Scott includes reasons why people get punished for leaking information and pics early
