Reprograming Remote
I bought a second remote for my 94 Camaro from a guy off of ebay and I was wondering if any of you had to get a remote reprogrammed and how much it was. For some reason I thought it was only like $10 to do it but I just called the flag and the guy said $26 and if they find some kind of problem it could be as high as $92

Mine was free @ Carter because i knew the guy but he said it would have cost about $45 if he didn't help me out.

PS= Never loose your keys because it's very expensive...$145 for the remote plus programing and $50 for the ignition key with the chip in it.

I have this info from some other link but lost the link. I'll give you what I have. I've never tried it so let me know how it works. I believe it's only good for 95 and earlier models.

The Keyless Entry Receiver is capable of accepting Vehicle Access Code (VAC) programming from any two random Transmitters. One or two Transmitters can be programmed. When two Transmitters are programmed, they must be programmed during the same program sequence, one after the other but not simultaneously. The Transmitter is manufactured with a permanent VAC combination (one of over 4 billion combinations) that cannot be changed for the life of the Transmitter. The Receiver can only be programmed by the Transmitter when it is powered at the Battery input at connector C2 terminal "F" and the program input line is grounded to connector C1 terminal "A".
Programming procedure:
Ground the program input line by connecting a fused jumper at the Data Link Connector (DLC) from terminal "G" to terminal "A" (note: use terminal G and A for pre '95 12 pin DLC. A is the top right pin and G is the bottom left. Use terminals 4 and 8 for the '95 16 pin DLC. The 16 pin DLC connector is numbered top left (1) to top right (8) and bottom left (9) to bottom right (16) ). The Receiver will cycle the Door Lock Actuators within one to three seconds to acknowledge that the Receiver is in the "PROGRAM" mode.
Press any button on the Transmitter once. In response, the Receiver will cycle the Door Lock Actuators to acknowledge that a transmission has been received.
Press any button on the second Transmitter once. In response, the Receiver will cycle the Door Lock Actuators to acknowledge that a transmission has been received.
Remove the fused jumper from the DLC and verify system operation using all three Transmitter buttons

I have a 96 Z28 camaro and read the manual to program the keyless entrys but it dosent work. The main one still works and programs but the other two wont. One dosent work from when I bought the car and the other, from another 97 camaro that I owned wont program either. Any ideas? The owers manual was the same as the help page above in this thread for pulling the radio fuse etc. but no go. Any help will be much appricated!

I finally tried the programming sequence for my 94 Z. It worked fine. The sequence for the 96 is different. Once again I'll give you what I have. If this procedure is different, try it. Otherwise it's all I have.
Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
Remove RADIO fuse 17 from fuse block.
Cycle ignition switch from OFF to RUN three times within five seconds until the door locks and the hatch release cycle, indicating the Body Control Module is in the Programming Mode.
Press and hold BOTH LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on remote control door lock transmitter for 16 seconds.
Door locks will cycle once, confirming the transmitter code is programmed. The door locks must cycle completely to unlock before proceeding.
Any transmitter code that was previously programmed has been erased.
Body Control Module is now programmed to remote control door lock transmitter.
When programming the Body Control Module to match remote control door lock transmitters, the first transmitter code matched will be stored in memory unless a second remote control door lock transmitter is matched at the same time. If programming the Body Control Module to match a second transmitter, repeat step 4. This must be done before the RADIO fuse 17 is reinstalled.
Ignition switch to OFF.
Reinstall RADIO fuse 17 to fuse block.
NOTE: Always program both transmitters when replacing a lost or damaged transmitter. The first transmitter code programmed will always be in both memories until a second transmitter is programmed within the same sequence.

Thanks for the quick reply! Like your intructions, the manual states the exact same procedure and when I tried that, nothing worked for the last two out of 3 remotes. I even tried them with new batterys and tried reprogramming them. I might have to take them into the chevy dealership... ouch!

Sorry I can offer anymore than that. You gotta know the dealer will have it done in 2.3 minutes but the book will say the job is worth .5 hours at 90/hr. I got hosed by preston's 2 years ago with a new remote I bought from them for my caddy. 300 for the remote and then the balls to charge me 40 to program it. Big brass ones.

Holly carp that costs a lot! I know a couple of people at Preston in Langey that might be able to help me but I hope he dosent rip me off! Well if he tries to I will hang it out and wait to see if I can work around it. Im wondering if the one keyless is borken or something but the other should work off my last camaro. Talk about robbery with those prices man! Im a little scared to try out the other way of using a jumper wire because my car is the newer style... So yeah will see what I can do. You live close to me hey? LOL Probably seen ya driving around Cloverdale

1996 seems to be the breakover year for this procedure. 1995 and lower are pretty straight forward and I had success with it as well on my 94. The info for the 96 is from the same source as the info for the 94/95 so I cannot comment on why it won't work. Don't get too panicked over the cost I paid. Cadillac stuff is always inflated big time from parts right through to service costs. It's why I don't drive one anymore. But that 300 horse STS was a sweet machine.

Well I will see what I can come up with. I will let you guys know if anything good turns out. Like I said I dont think the jumper wire idea will work on my year and Im afraid to try it knowing that electronics and computers can be very touchy. Thanks again!

No... Definitely don't try it on your 96. You might try some of the more task specific sections on this message board. There's a wealth of information out there for the taking and everybody is pretty free with it. Try posting in several sections and see what comes up. Age notwithstanding, F-body folk are pretty helpful. Goodluck. Share what you find.
