What to look for when buying a 74-81 camaro

Hey guys,

I'm new to camaro's and this site, and was wondering if you guys could give me the things to look for when looking at the 74-81 camaro's. I saw a blue camaro, couldn't really distinguish the year because it was a quick glance, but the body looked in good shape from what i could see. I have yet to see this car in person, and take a walk around it. Most likely I will thursday with a buddy of mine. Any advice you guys have is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

I'd focus on looking for poorly done rust and collision repairs. The best you can hope for is a rust free strait car. Look in typical places for rust, like the trunk pan, floor pans, fenders, quarters, doors, etc. Look at the body seams, see if they line up properly. Look at the panels for any evidence of poorly done paint work, look for ripples and waves and any other ugly stuff.

If the body is solid and strait, the rest can be fixed over time. Just make sure you dont end up with a car the is filled with rot and poorly done repairs.

Exactly what i was going to say, motor interior and things of that nature can be easily fixed, but rust and bent frames cant.
Look in the wheel wells, under the car at the floor boards, pop the hood and look at the firewall and strut towers for signs of rust and carosioun (sp?) That would be my biggest concern, ask him if its ever been in an accident, most likely hes going to lie to you if its not obvious it has, just make sure the frame is straight and there isnt any sign of rust witch might be pretty hard to find in a late 2nd gen camaro

Re: What to look for when buying a 74-81 camaro

well all i know is the exterior looked good from a distance. my mechanic friend and i are going to go over and check the car out tomorrow. I don't think it has been driven in a while, due to seeing it parked at this farm. It may run rough, and the fact that it was parked for a while uncovered in all elements (to the best of my knowledge) has me worried there is rust on either the frame or underbody of the car. Thanks for all your help guys.
