Stock LT1 vs 454 big block

I finally got to race someone from a dead stop, it was some older chevy car not sure exactly what though. We pulled up to the light and he asked if it was stock, and i told him, "yeah, but i got some plans for it once i pay it off" and he said he just dropped a 454 big block in his car and a bunch of cool stuff he had planned for it, then he told me he should be able to beat me. So light turns green and we are neck and neck till 80 or so, he maybe had a foot on me because he stomped it a split second before me. We got stopped by 2 more lights, and some how i managed to get his front bumper to my door by 80 mph, we came to another red light and he was blaming it on bad shifts(which is probably true cause this thing sounded like a beast) even so,it felt good to beat a car with over 100ci more than me. Oh, and the last light we were bout to go to 80 or so again and by the time we get to about 40mph (in a 35mph zone) we see a cop going the other way. We looked at each other with an "oh ****" face and laughed. Anyways the guy was really cool, and we had fun.

BTW i dont want the flames that i see alot of people like to throw out here about how i should have lost everytime, this is what happened and no matter what you think or know, doesnt change the fact i did beat him twice.

Anything can happen on the street...the big block cars were not all strong...but don't get to wrapped up on the cubic inch route...it is nothing to get those motors running 10's on motor.

See the problem with 454's is some only had like high 200 horsepower (290) so it is possible you ran into one of those. Any Big Block with headers and exhaust is more than likely going to sound like a beast.

Just like my TA wouldn't touch my old Chevelle with a 454 but the Chevelle was Bored and Had H/C and all the boltons. It made an easy est. 480-500hp NA. It will depend on how much dough they got in the motor

BTW. The heads on the Chevelle were just port and Polished iron heads and had that much power. It still had quite a bit more in it with some big port aluminum heads.

My younger brother has a 468" in his Nova...nothing special, cheap Edelbrock heads, 10.5:1 compression, nice headers, mild mechanical cam, 950 carb...car put down 442/530 @ the wheels and runs 10's on street tires(steam rollers though).
