Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky "news"?
Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky "news"?
I don't know if this has been discussed or not on here, I didn't find anything, but if this is old news let me know.
My uncle works in a GM plant, and they had a meeting with various people about the areas of the plant and what is going to be built there and in other plants. I forget exactly what his position is, but he works in paint and body.
Apparently the body for the solstice and sky, are both going to be assembled by people instead of robots. Due to the small sales projections, they aren't willing to spend the money on any robotics for them.
Is this news or did I miss another topic discussing this? Seems to me like you could have some real problems with this.

From Edmunds ...
It's got a sensual side, too. The Solstice is the first General Motors vehicle to use hydroformed body panels. Hydroforming has been used to create the frames of GM's full-size pickups since 1999 and the frames of C5 Corvettes since the mid-'90s, but never for body components. Much like it sounds, hydroforming is the process of using fluid to shape metal. It allows for more extreme shapes than stamping and produces strong parts of uniform thickness. "It's slower than stamping," said Mr. Hopson, "but it does allow us to get those gorgeous curves."

Cool, this was just the first I had heard about any of this going on. I usually keep on new vehicle news pretty well, but this had slipped by me.
Oh, I got to check out a Malibu Maxx as well. That thing is actually damn comfy, though the looks suck.
