very cool

the story that told about the 6 speed autos being developed said that they would have models that could hold up to 620ft-lbs. I guess this is the biggest.

Couple the Allison six speed automatic with the Duramax diesel and you have one incredible towing package. Hands down the most impressive heavy duty pickup I've ever been in. It also can create copious amounts of tire smoke at will. You gotta love that.

It's my understanding the current Allison 1000 Series 5 spd auto in the HD's has the planetary and internals for 6 gears, there's just no valve body or TCM programming for it. Internet myth? Who knows, just what I've heard stated previously.

DerekM: No mythology. Capability was designed in, just now being implemented. Great towing package.

The heavier duty Allison World Transmissions have had 6 speeds available as an option for some time. I believe the design of all of these is similar. In buses, the models are B300, B400, and B500. I think they correspond to the 3000, 4000, and 5000 series truck transmissions.

That's why they are coming to market quicker. That's where the money is at. That's how GM will fund your next Camaro. Not niche vehicles or a pipe dream architecture.

Like it or not, but the money is in pick-ups and SUV's. The next craze will be crossovers.

Lets hope we don't have another gas crisis. Yes there is good money in that segment, but GM needs to be able to make a nice profit on smaller, more fuel efficent vechiles if they want to survive.

Seems to me like GM is falling into the same mistake they made with the first gas crunch.
