Car stereo newbie, in need of assistance.

Hey guys. I've decided that I've gone long enough with the stock stereo, and its time for something new (and better). I mainly listen to rock/metal/acid, with the occasional dip into trance/techno. I usually don't listen to rap unless one of my friends wants to. I have a 12" Audiobahn sub I kind of bought on a whim, but after emailing subthump he said he'd rather use a 10. In your expert opinions, what would the best system considering my tastes be? Within a limit, money isn't much of a problem. As long as you guys don't recommend some 1500$ amp and like 3000$ in subs, I'll be fine.

Right now I've got a couple years old Sony HU, which'll soon be replaced with something high end. That should work for alittle while. My speakers are on the verge of blowing, sometimes sounding good, sometimes sounding like a wet dog fart. Those'll get the boot too. While I have everything off, I'll probably re-wire those.

Back on topic. What sub(s?), amp, and speakers would you guys recommend. I like to listen to my music loud, but I don't necessarily want to people to hear my bass from a mile away. I want clearity, sound quality, and high volume levels. Also, what type of wires would you guys suggest? The RF amp "installation kit" at best buy seems a tad steep at 60-110$...I'm sure I can find a better price.

As if I wasn't asking enough, could you guys also steer me in the right direction of how to hook them up? Thanks in advance.

Since money is not much of a problem, I'd look into an Eclipse head unit.

well since u listen to rock and techno etc id say go with a 10 cuz they give nice crisp hard hits which those types of music use alot, some 12s can do that but ur better of with a 10
u can look into mtx or jl audio for stealth boxes that fit inside ur wheel well so u still have room in ur trunk
u said high end headunits but i like Pioneer myself

as for subs and stuff its all about preference u wont get a real good answer from ppl

good luck have fun , love bass lol
PS ebay is ur friend

10 is the way to go with the type of music you listen to. what model is your audiobahn?
Need a headunit, I have one for sale Pioneer Premier DEH-P940MP. Thing will just about wipe your butt. PM me if interested. I can send pics also.
As far as amps, stay away from the flea markets, you something good. Audiobahn, Rockford Fosgate, etc..

theres absolutley nothign wrong with 12s, we are just saying for the type of music he listens to 10s will be better off in his case,
10 will hit alot better and 12s will drop alot lower, since he says he doesnt listen to rap to much on rock etc 10s would be perfect for him

shouldaboughtthez how much fro teh Pioneer Premier DEH-P940MP
