Z/28 needs new wheels/tires - Suggestions?

After this winter I am going to need some new tires, and I figure well if I am going to get new tires, I might as well upgrade to larger diameter and thicker wheels. I dont have a ton of cash and the cash I do have I want to spend more on getting traction than looking good. I really like the C5 Magnesiums and TT2's, but they are out of my price range. So I have narrowed it down to the tried and true 5 or 10 spoke SS wheels. Now the stock GM ones where 17x9 or 9.5 right? I would like genuine GM SS wheels. So what should a good set of these run? Chrome or Painted. How much difference in traction would I see if I went to 11's out back or all around? I am partial towards the 10 spoke, but the ZR1's are available in 11" genuine GM.

With those wheels I am in need of some great performing tires. I do alot of agressive driving but I never street race I have found that tirerack rates the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's very well. Are they as good as they seem or are there other better choices? I need great cornering, good grip wet or dry, and noise I dont care cause I wont hear it over the GMMG. Again with the 9-9.5" or 11" I have GSC's all the way around and when I added bolt on's my traction disappeared. I hit the track once or twice a year so I dont really want Nitto's or BFG DR. Neither wears well and I need something that will last. The GSC's I got about 30k out of. I am open for suggestions and testimonies. By the way my future plans are a LE1 H/C package and stall/gears later. I hear that wheels/tires are one of the best "suspension" mods to do, so lets her the input.

Well, I have the combo that you are talking about(OEM SS 5 spoke rims with F1 GS-D3's). Awesome setup if you ask me.

First, the F1 GS-D3's ARE all that they are cracked up to be. They are incredible tires, and quiet as well.

The OEM SS rims are 17"x9". I was lucky to find a set of OEM rims, but I got lucky. I think www.slponline.com has the OEM SS rims for about $600 new. As you know, SLP made the SS package, so I'm assuming that the SS rims on their site are the same as the OEM.
:edit: I checked and I think they are more like $800 new.

I've had tire noise with other tires, and you can hear it over a loud exhaust, believe it or not. I had the Potenza RE730's and they looked and handled great, but were super loud. I couldn't stand it.

Well its good to hear those are great tires, cause I dont want to get into high wear drag radials and have to replace them often. I just need something that sticks good on the street, I hardly go to the strip. I also need good aqua traction, cornering etc, which those seem to have. What are they speed rated?

Wheels, well I am either buying OEM used or fakie's cause I cant afford anything better. I like ZR1's, but they are very common, I like the 10 spokes a bit more and a bit less common. I saw some low cost fakie ZO6's on ebay, I dont need chrome or anything though. I go to school in one of the worst cities in the US and I dont need yet another reason for my car to get jacked. Plus I'd rather save some extra dough for more go and less show. Thanks for the replies.

I have a set fo silver ZR1 wheels that I am selling. They don't have any rubber on them, but they are in good condition and come with lugs and silver lug covers. I will let go for $400 OBO. I am in need to sell, so I can definetly do better on the price. If you are interested, email me at 93fiveo@micro-link.net.
