Question Aftermarket MAF okay with nitrous?

I just put a NX wet kit on my car and have a Granatelli MAF.
Is it okay to run this with nitrous or are these "tuned" to change timing, etc? Should i change back to my original one?

Aftermarket MAFS' don't affect timing, so there is no problem running it with a wet kit, since they spray after the MAF sensor anyway.

Have fun.

I called Granatelli after i posted this and they said they have to recalibrate the sensor for use with nitrous for like $125. He said if i'm running nitrous, use the stock MAF sensor until I get the Granatelli one recalibrated. What's up with that? Is he right or just wanting my money?

Cool

Maybe the GMS MAF, make more power buy being calibrated "lean". They could be telling the ECM that the car is getting less air than it really is- and that would make it lean. But for Nitrous that whould be bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Call them back and ask why it has to be recalibrated. Just my 2 cents!

My guess is that they're thinking you're going to run a dry kit that will spray through the MAFS. Hardly anyone does this on the LT1 because the PCM doesn't sample quickly enough to effectively register the N2O.

For a wet kit, there is no reason you have to do ANYTHING to your MAFS, stock or aftermarket.

I heard too that the lean the car out too. So if I sent the MAF back to be calibrated, all I would end up with would be a descreened and ported maf just like i could do to my stock one. Anyone ever actually use an aftermarket one with nitrous? I know on ls1.com there is a similar post going and one person says they run a Granatelli MAF with nitrous and have no problems. Others say use a MAF translator to correct the lean condition. Are the LS1 cars different from ours with nitrous? Are they spraying through the MAF?

I have a granatelli MAF on my 94 Z and what I understood was that they trick the computer into thinking the car is getting more air than it really is. But I could be wrong. In anycase my car is running rich with the MAF, K&N CAI, relocated IAT, Edelbrock headers, no cat, pro flow muffler, and some drivtrain goodies.
I'm going to get a NX wet kit soon as well so I'd like to hear what you guys figure as well.

What if I took the plastic ends of my GMS MAF and put them on my stock MAF center section? Would this work and is there any benefit to it? I would not have the screen or divider anymorefrom the stock MAF ends.

To answer 96zvert's question, yes, many LS1 owners use dry kits that spray through the MAFS.

Any wet kits that spray after the MAFS have nothing to do with the MAFS.

But the aftermarket MAF does lean the car out doesn't it? which isn't good when using nitrous.

Yes it leans the car out! You don't want to be too lean on the juice. Use the factory electronic and use the GMS houseing, Them call GMS and find out how much (in %) there houseong is than stock. Next have the MAF tables in the computer corected for the diffence. That is my 2 cents.
