Question My car pulls badly when I brake....

Whenever I'm going about 60 mph on the interstate, and I get on a exit ramp, when I hit the brakes my car pulls real hard to the right. The first time it happened, I almost went off the road. This only happens when I brake after going 50+ mph. Going through town, I generally just down shift and let my engine do the braking. Is this a problem with camaro's, or is something wrong with my brakes? O yeah, I drive a 1991 Camaro RS.

Sounds like its in your front calipers, pads.Check to make sure both calipers move freely, and see if you have uneven pad wear.If so, you might have a bad caliper.

I would say your front brake hoses are shot. And if they are the original rubber ones replace with Braided stainless steel. That should cure the pulling problem.

Probably the hoses, but all chevy's pull right for some reason when brakeing.. I think anyway.. My tahoe pulls right.. stainless steel brake lines, new calipers, greased the slide pins well.. They don't wear a ton quicker than the driver side.. But on my old 88 chevy TBI I would run the pads down till i felt grinding.. the passenger side would always go first.. Just a chevy thing I think.. but I never drove off the road.. but then again I don't hit brakes without holding on to the wheel.... So who knows... a slight pull is normal for chevy..

None of the Chevy's that I have ever driven (with properly maintained brakes) have ever pulled to either side.

Re: My car pulls badly when I brake....

Thanks for the tips guys. I ended up have a flat tire today after work. All four of them show signs of dry rot. Your probably thinking "this guy doesn't give a crap about his car." The truth is, I've only had the car for about a month, normally I take care of my cars, and don't let problems get out of hand. Anyways, I'm getting four new tires tommorrow, and I'll check on the brakes, calipers, and hoses when I put the them on. Thanx again for the tips.

My car pulls ever since I hit ice and slid off the road. Maybe its an alignment issue?

Check your caliper to knuckle clearance. It is the most often overlooked item on front calipers. You should have about .010" clearance between the top and bottom sides of the caliper to the knuckle. Tight clearances will always make your brakes pull after they get hot.

I can't imagine why GM would design Chevy's to pull to the right when braking.

If it is constanly pulling and not just when braking then yes that is your problem. Although you can have an alignment problem because you bent or broke somthing.
