No more Cobalt SS
No more Cobalt SS
Looks like GM dropped the 2.4L 170hp Cobalt SS (both coupe and sedan)
Oh well, as long as they are still making the s/c SS its all good

I think this is probably a good move... less confusing to the general buyer.
I think it is a good move. It seems to place the SS with more value by doing away with the SS badged base models. I could see different SS models if they offered something substantial that could not be ordered on any other model.

The Ecotec seems to be getting some attention just like the Quad4 did...
While I'm not going to say the Quad4s where all that great, they did make a fair amount of HP for their day.
I'll refer to the DOHC Quads, not the SOHCs...
They made a DOHC LO: 150-160hp depending on year
DOHC HO: 170-180 again, depending on year
and a DOHC W41: 91-93 185-190hp depending on year
It was neat that you had options.
I feel that with today's econoboxes making 130ish power and delivery decent mileage, GM needs to step it up a notch and make the 170hp model standard and keep the price low.
Rather than say, Civic with 120hp or Cobalt with 140hp, they can say 170hp vs 120.
Its a mental game but as well all know, import market is dominating small car sales lately and if GM wants to compete with the non-SS version, they've got to step it up.
Although, all I'm doing is talking - Its not like GM is listening to anything a consumer says.

What about Silverado SS? SSR? And our favorite C-word???

I think it just means that the top performance car will be SS....
I was wondering if the Cobalt would follow suit when the non supercharged SS's got dropped. So is there going to be a Cobalt LT coupe too?
So with the SS's getting supercharged (at least the 4 and 6 cyl)and the mid-range models getting the LT badge, could we possibly see a return of the Camaro Type LT?

"SS" in the future will have engines not available in any other model of that vehicle's line up. This comes straight from Chevrolet, so it was a small wonder why Impala, Monte Carlo, & Colbalt were going to have an engine available in other models.
SSR gets a 6.0 LS2 next year, as does the Trailblazer SS. The Silverado SS seems likely to get a supercharger.
As for the "C" word, I'll just say the quick model the 1st year isn't likely to have a "Z" anywhere in the name.
