G. Baxter 8-second videos

These are some videos of George Baxter’s 30th SS convertible making 8-second passes. Brief summary – the engine is a Gen 1 SBC, 383 CI, MoTeC injection with a Vortech S/C running ~22# of boost, TH400, 9-inch, stock style suspension by Steve Spohn, Bogart wheels by SJM Manufacturing. Race weight is still a bloated 3,525#.

First one is the car’s first full-power pass with the new engine at Maple Grove on 4/23 test and tune. 8.76 @ 160mph, 1.361 60-ft, the full time slip is here:

Please don’t criticize my video skills, or lack thereof …. My sole purpose in taking the video was to capture the reaction of the suspension, hence the view of the rear tire on launch. It is just “incidental” that I happened to follow the car part way down the track and focus on the timing board (at least this one wasn’t shaking too bad like my earlier stuff ). The sound of the engine is worth time to look at the video (1.2M .mpv).

The second one is the car running in the first round of eliminations at the PRO/Edelbrock Nationals, Xtreme Street class, at Atco NJ on 5/23/2004. The car ran 8.87 @ 156.86, 0.093 RT, 1.3X 60-ft, against the losing 89 Mark VII (!!!!) 400ci Ford of Bill Kieler. Not a good view at the end of the track, but you can see the chute pop if you look carefully. The Mark VII was the slowest of 16 qualifiers at 9.8/138, and ran in the 10’s on this pass. Track conditions were poor, with mid-90’s air temps, and humidity to match.

The third one is the second round of eliminations. 8.887 @ 156.28, 0.079 RT, 1.3X 60-ft., losing to the 72 Nova, 524 CI BBC of Nick Rinehart running a 8.572 @ 163.24.

Special thanks to Scott “385LT1” Abrino of Abrino Performance Engineering, in Hampton, VA for hosting the videos.

Those dyno pulls date back to maybe a year ago. The nitrous pull was nothing special, but its the only one I ever made a video of. It was actually missing about 100HP on that pull, which was tracked down to a faulty bottle valve. Unfortunately the problem was found the next day when I was not there.
