LT1 Victor Jr. heads
A shop here in Denver is taking Edelbrock Victor Jr. heads and converting them to reverse-cooling for use on the LT1. They are selling them for $1,600 completely assembled. Additional porting costs extra. They are the 215cc versions and according to Edelbrock's web site these heads flow 265/207 at .500 lift and 281/217 at .600 lift. Sounds like an easy 300+ cfm with a bit of porting. The issue I'm wondering about is the .300" raised exhaust port and resulting header mis-match problems. Anybody with any experiance with the Victor Jr. head? I'm just thinking that this is possibly a great alternative to the AFRs I've been considering for a 396/solid roller build.

If you're going to use modified heads, why not go with even better ones than the Jrs?
Just a thought.

Have you considered AFR LT4 195 cc heads? Seems like a easier solution to me.

Yeah, I'm considering a couple of different cylinder head options. I was just thinking the a bse price of $1,600 was pretty good. Any opinions on the .300" raised exhaust port?

The conversion work for standard small block chevy heads is not a big deal and not a lot of work.Especially if you use a regular intake. With a regular intake you do run into some cowl and hood clearance issues.
You just need to weld up the water crossover ports.Open up some of the water ports a little and drill a couple oil drain back holes. Also make sure you tap the back of each head to relieve the air pockets.
I have a set of pro action 235 on my 396 lt1 race moter and now am searching for a set of heads for one of our street cars.
If you search around you can find some great deals on some used performance race heads out their. They are everywhere. And great deals pop up all over the place.
The edelbrock stuff are a pretty decent head out of the box but are pretty close to their potential out of the box.(They do offer an 18* head with small ports for an 18* head that would make a great street head)
If you were to go with a non lt1 head look into the pro action stuff It is cheap and has awsome potential. You can get used worked brodix heads very resonable. They can be found on e-bay for under a grand .Another couple hundred fro the conversion and you are ready to go.
On the raised ports I think you will be allright. They still have a standard exghuast flange.

A local shop did this to a set of Brodix heads for a 383 LT-1. It is one of the slowest cars in town FYI.

thats dissapointing... Could that be just the heads they used? Might not even be that. Could be a bad tune, poor driving, etc...

anybody know anyone in the northeast who would do this? also is there any way you would still be able to use an lt1 intake or would you have to change over to a carb?

I had Mike Stark at CFMperformance.com Do mine.
Mike Specializes in heads and has quite a bit of expeirence dealing with different castings. And will spend the time picking the casting that will best suite your aplication.
I will do the next set myself. Then send it to a shop to have the intake face trued after welding.
