Post Will it Work?

have a chance to trade my old beater truck (that i dont drive) for some chevy parts..the question is..will later chevy heads work with earlier chevy engines? i have a 4bolt 350 from a 80 blazer in my camaro...can i put on LT1 or LS1 heads? (he has a set of each) and will they work with my performer intake? which would be better?

and also, since if i change the heads, i might as well change the cam while i am at it..what is a good low rpm cam for jumping off the line? (i currently have a crane fireball cam, but it doesnt make decent power until about 2200..partly because of the quadrajunk carb...but found out today there is plenty of power up to ~5200 rpm) it is a daily driver, but i dont go on the freeway much..also need this info for second 350 i plan on building (although probly gonna build a 383 out of it)

thanks all! i am gonna catch up with you 3th gens...one way or another!!!

Not sure about the cam...but the heads wont work....dunno about the ls1's but i know the lt1's have reverse cooling...so the water jackets are different...

ok..so the heads are out...(found out after i posted that there is something different with the heads after 87 too)...i called him and he says he has all the internals for both an lt1 and ls1...so are the stock cams any good or anything else i should pick up instead?

I am pretty sure that LT1 heads will bolt right up, but i think LS1 blocks are different so the heads will be different. I think the LT1 heads will work if you rout the coolant lines to the back of the head. I really don't see a point in that though as you would need to use the LT1 intake manifold as well(i would think)and old school heads will be cheaper and probably have better flow capabilities.

yeah, i have another 350 i think i will do up the heads and bolt on this engine to see the difference it makes...then i can decide on how to go when i build the second engine...since i dont drive this on the freeway, i am just gonna make it a streetable 1/4 mile car...so i am gonna look up some low rpm cams and see whats out there.

thinkin i am just some cash for my beater truck...2 or 3 hundred should be enough for a good night on the town!

thanks all!!
