how hard is it to run 6 speed with pre-86' block?????

My dad bought a 95' model T56 trans from a formula. Bought it for 250$!!! Friend of mine wrecked it and needed money real bad, so he practically gave it to us. Dad has a 71' C-10 with a 358 circle track racing engine and an old 3 speed on the tree... My question is...If we have the bellhousing, clutch assembly, flywheel, slave cylinders, how hard is it to make this setup work??? Has anyone else ever put a t56 in an old truck like this???? If so, how much trouble was it??? Thanks for any replies!!

main thing you will need is a different flywheel. The bolt pattern on the cranks is different.

Different yoke for the driveshaft, move the crossmember back, and cut a new shifter hole. The shifter will be a little short also, but that can be fabbed up

you will like it!!!!!!!

Centerforce has the flywheel that you need..A buddy of mine got one for 360bucks from jegs..Im currently thinking about this for my car but i dont have the str8 across bolt pattern for the 153th starter..Centerforce told me that you run all the late model stuff except the flywheel..

as far as the starter some 400 blocks dont have the bolt holes for the str8 across pattern..Not sure about other blocks as all of them i have seen have the dual hole pattern..At any rate if you dont have the st8 across starter pattern then CSI sells an offset starter that will work..

Weir Hot Rod products sells a new cast alloy bellhousing but last i heard he hade problems with time at his foundry..Ill have to find the link..With his casting you are allowed to run a diaphram clutch along with a hydo throwout bearing..

Does anyone know if it would be harder to make a six speed work with a 400 small block??? I'm wondering about this one for my RS. Wanna build up a solid roller 406 with ported Edelbrock rpm heads. Got ahold of the 400 for REAL cheap from my mother and the build up is coming up!!!!! I would really like to use my 6 speed with this new setup, but I dont know how hard it will be....Any suggestions???????

Hardest part will be getting an externally balanced flywheel, but they can also add mallory metal to the crank to balance it internally.

You will need one of the aftermarket mini starters to match up, but it shouldn't be any harder than any other SBC.
