A fat cam and new valve springs would help a lot.

This is 98 Mustang? It has 150HP engine... They accelerate to 60mph somewhere in the 9 second range, whereas fbody will do around 8 - 8.5
This isn't the new 99 V6 engine that has 190 HP, in which case you'd be spanked big time.
You should win, hands down.

A friend in VA has a 00' nearly base line stag, it has high rear gears(high 2.??) and an open diff and an auto trans.
He can't burn the tires they just spin some or do doughnuts they look like a big circle.
you can get power to the ground better than him but he probly will win if you don't do some real mods.

The 1998 3.8s Mustangs had 150 HP. You have 160, plus if you add the mods, you can take him. Anything can happen, but you should be able to.
If it was a newer 3.8 Mustang, however, they'd smear you all over the street. Remember to remove all excess weight...it makes a difference.

you could get a custom turbo, and strap it on, then tell me how you did it, and you would easily win.

we both have auto's and no for the turbo, i dont have that kind of money, but i think i may get some underdrive pullies and then its a win for sure? i mean we both have only have our license for like a month, so both of us are not skilled at racing.

there is no sure thing. he could be modding his Stang while you mod yours. but his AODE tranny could be an equalizer to your much heavier convertible.
practice your launch. get the UD pullies, LSD and aluminum DS. practice your launch. get some tranny mods. (sorry, don't know auto mods) oh, did i say practice your launch?

If you'll be getting LSD, I doubt it really matters...
On the more serious note, getting a torque converter for your auto will aid you quite a bit.
Later,
max.

Rookies...just don't take out any innocent people out when you guys race, okay?
One of these weekends I'll have to get me and my crew down to Campbell and show these high schoolers to concentrate more on their studies than their cars.
Don't build up your car just for this one race...if you have enough to beat him, good...if not, who cares. Trust me, you're going to get beat plenty of times so don't worry about what you need to do to beat him.
