Post Best way to cut out the popping sound in exhaust

I added a flowmaster awhile ago with a stock cat and 2.5 and have a really raspy sound in the high rpms and a popping sound whenever I let off the gas. I know that I could add a resonator back there but wouldn't that tone down my exhaust? What offer options do I have or should I go for a new cat or pipe?

the popping noise from when you let off the gas is from backpressure. not sure how to fix it on 2 into 1 exhaust like on our v-6's but on true dual applications, you would add an x-pipe or h-pipe. maybe that will help i dunno.

before the muffler put a resonator(kinda a glasspack) in there right after the cat and it will delete all that annoying rasp that you are hearing

Throw a little dynomax bullet muffler before the muffler, my buddy did and it didn't tone his exhaust down at all. Mine used to do it a lot, but I've had the muffler on for about a year and a half and now it doesnt do it as much. Personally I like the pop, I think it sorta sounds like a mustang with the resonator.

get a wider Y pipe and a new Cat, throw on some good headers and you'll barely notice it anymore. Glasspacks are another option although people generally relate those to rednecks and old muscle cars, just don't tell anybody you have glasspacks, also most states wont pass you in inspection with them so be careful.

i Dual Monza tips with resonations on and that sound is deleted. The ones i put on my car are actually for a truck thy cost me like 43.00 a piece. You can go with the car ones but i dont know if it will sound the same way cause the truck ones are longer. THey cost cheaper at 25.00 a piece.

When i take my foot off the gas, the backpressure is out of control.
How can you not love that sound? It turns heads as you roll by, unlike the generic sound of a mustang. The more poping the better.

1. Remove the muffler.
2. Remove the popcorn kernels from the muffler.
3. Reinstall the muffler.

Actually, this sound happens in V8s as well, especially with Borla. It has mostly to do with the muffler.

As someone suggested, you can increase the size of your Y-pipe, or simply get a different muffler.

I have headers with y-pipe, a 3" high flow cat and the SLP Loudmouth system and mine still does it. I don't think you will really be able to eliminate it.

It will still do it even with a straight pipe cut just after the y pipe.
It's hard to get rid of.
Me, I like the sound.
