Exclamation TT 3.8 is a possibility and I'll tell ya when it's done

I have not been on this board for a very long time, basically I have been working to buy an SS. I had a 97 SS all picked out in North Carolina then the bank told me that since I live in WV I could not get a loan for a car in NC. So I went back to the drawing board. A buddy of mine who drives a 87 GN was surfing TurboBuick.com one night while I was over and showed me the holy grail. There is a company (I can't think of the name off hand) that is developing and aluminum block cast for a 3.8L GN. This puppy is turbo ready. The block is still under development and most likely will not be on sale for another month or two. But just for sh*ts and giggles I called the guys, I asked them what they thought about my idea and they informed me that not only is it possible, but the engine itself would bolt in with little modification. So now all my over time has not gone in vain. Now this whole setup will cost me well over 10 grand, but after the new twin turbo engine, new tranny, and massive suspension and rear-end upgrades I will have a V6 Camaro that eats Supras for dinner and makes Cobras cry. Don't tell me it can't be done or that I'm an idiot for trying because your wrong. This car will be one of a kind and that to me is worth it. So in about a year it should either done or damn near it, as long as I don't lose my job! It could be a a year and a 1/2 b/c I will have to buy a little beater car while the camaro is out of comission b/c it will be gutted. I'll post the company on here as soon as I can remember the name, there's not much info on the site so if your really interested you should call them.

BTW - currently she is a 95 3.4 m5 with about 90k miles.

Talking

will do man, kinda depressing though. I thought more people would comment on it and tell me what they think. Oh well you'll hear about it soon enough. I already put a grand down on the block.

check out www.taperformance.com

They have some shots of the casting process of their prototype V6 block.

With the LS1 being Al it is about time someone made an Al block. In my mind it is too bad that it is a 3.8 and not a 3800 II.
However I guess there is a bigger aftermarket for the 3.8 compared to the 3800I and 3800II combined.

But hey I can deal with building a 3.8. Personally I would skip the TT and go for a mangacharger (aftermarket eaton m90). (I know about the cowl clearance issue....)
I like the idea of a vacuum operated bypass valve and 1/3hp load under "by-passed / no boost" highway driving.

Use that over ten thousand towards that 97 SS. Even if this was done, by the time your done you have a car which burns as much gas as a V8 and costs as much to insure as the V8 might as well get a V8. I am not convinced about the beating Supras unless these are the Supras with out TT. I am not picking on V6 engines, just saying it would cost the same to get a V8.

Why would insurance cost more on a v6 than an SS?

yeah, it would make more sense to just buy a V8

BUT

I know plenty of Turbo Buicks that wouldn't have much problems with most supras....Don't count a Turbo V6 out

Oh. Most supras, yea, true. I thought you were talking about the Twin Turbo Supras. It could probably beat a single turbo Supra.

Single Turbo Supras are usually faster since people swap out to 1 big turbo.

With your current plan, i doubt you'll come in under 10k.

Why not just do a swap from a GN. The entire driveline will hold up to your abuse, and it has every little wire and harness you'll need. To me the Twin setup with an aluminum block is a bit pointless. Not to mention, it's been done before, so there is a knowledge base for it.

I don't want to stomp your dreams out, just pushing you in an easier direction. if you want a fast V6 go for it. Hell, the supras are only 3L and they can push 1000+ hp.
