2000 rpm stall?????help please

i'm getting a new torque converter for my 81 Z... it has a 355 with a fair idle, TH350 and a 3.73 posi rearend...makes around 365hp... i want to use it on the street and strip and was wondering what a 2000 rpm stall does... when i'm stopped at a stop sign will i have to rev to engine to 2000 before it'll start to take off or will it start moving before it hits 2000

Good question, I have always wondered the same, I think it will stil move before 2K, something special happens at 2K though, cause I know my 95 Z28 had a stall of about 1800 and it would move at idle by itself. Don't take my word for it though, I am sure someone else has a better knowledge. But for 365HP I would go to about 2500 or so stall. Let me know what happens

i also am wonderin if my rpms will stay at 2000 when i'm driving down the road and they would normally be 1500....i mean will it slip when i'm driving regular and automatically stay at 2000 when my foot is on the gas instead of starting to pull at a lower rpm...also i will lose gas mileage...more than likely(but i'm not worried about that as of now, i'll worry later)HAHA

get the 2000 stall....

the 2000 means that if you were to lock the rear end (ie tranny brake) and mashed the gass peddle, the converter would only let the motor get to 2000 rpm...

I think stock is around 800 or so...

I have a 1800-2000 in mine, and I can let my foot of the brake and it will begin to roll at idle, so no you don't have to go to 2000 to take off from a light. It dose grab a bit higher (you can notice you don't have to hit the brakes as hard to keep it stopped at idle in gear) but not too much so...

I wish I would have gone a bit higher myself, and will next time, but 2000 sounds a bout right for you....
