engine compartment colors??
I have an almost original black 78 Z28. Everything is original with the exception of the engine. I'm presently building a brand new ZZ430 using all GMPP parts. Question: does anyone know what the original color of the firewall, fender wells and radiator core support are supposed to be? The car's exterior is Black w/black interior w/triple gold stripes. My car was undercoated/rust-proofed 24 years ago and I want to get it back to factory original.

i m pretty sure every thing should be black. on my 79 z the only color under the hood was the front fenders themselves and what ever you could see of the nose

Thanks guys for the info, sure helps after 24 years of originality. I bought the car brand new and passed it on to my oldest son who was born in 1978 so it;s his baby now. We're going to have a body shop clean the undercoating away and respray the engine compartment mostly semi-gloss black even though the upper half of the firewall was the body color (gloss black). Nice to see that touch spray paint is available.
BTW, if all works out on the engine, we're hoping around 425-435 horse. Just hope the rearend doesn't decided to torque it's way out of the car. May be looking at subconnecting the frame!

Thanks Bill. it sure is a great project. Gee, I wonder where he got "the need for speed"! It started out as a cam change on the 355 I built a while ago. Oh well, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! Thanks!
