Post Electrical problems........Need Help Please

It all starts from the headers melting wires in the solenoid and coming out of the wiring harness. I replaced the starter w/ solenoid and also replaced the bad wire from the harness. Charged the battery and put it all back together. Before when I got absolutely nothing when turning the key, now i get a fast clicking noise as if I reversed the connections on the battery. I tried a different battery, same thing. I don't think I connected anything wrong. What could it be? And please don't tell me to check everything, because as far as I know, it's all correct. Thank You

Always possible you were given a bum starter or solenoid. Did you try shorting the terminals with screwdriver or remote switch? If it turns over, wiring is problem. If you get more clicks, starter or solenoid.

Possibility B: when the wire melted it might have shorted to ground, and something farther up the line was damaged from excess current flow.

I must agree. When I got home from work, I did try to "hot wire" the car. Jammed a screwdriver down there with the ignition on and same bullshevic clicking. Pinion not flying. Enough of this Napa Reman. bullshevic, I'm gonna find me a mini starter. Save mucho time installing it around the hookers also. How many teeth on a stock th350 (153 i think)? Anybody have suggestions on where to get one or brand? Thanks

The verdict is in. Bum starter. Round three begins. Good thing it's raining and the weather has been crappy, I'm not missing any nice cruising weather. Later, Kevin

Finished everything off and it cranks, but......It is REALLY high pitched and sounds like it's screaming. Will putting the shim in make any difference, I never used one before. Now to fix that damn fuel leak. It's one thing after another...

one time I got a small rod with my new starter that was used to measure the distance between the shaft the gear on the starter slides on and the flex plate teeth. I think it was 1/8". Maybe someone can confirm this... but anyway you can use the chuck end of a drill bit of the correct size (again I think it was 1/8 but know it is a fairly common drill bit size). You use it like a feeler gauge between the shaft in the starter and the flex plate teeth to tell you if you need to shim the nose of the starter towards or away from the flex plate.
