Jet-Hot long tube troubles

I can't get an answer to my questions after emailing chris, so I thought I should point something out to those buying jet-hot long tubes.

http://www.sixtyninecamaro.com/images/jethot.jpg

Notice how far below the top of the header tube the square is... that's when resting against the A4 cross member.

I already purchased 3" exhaust tubing, 3" mufflers, etc. And now none of it will work.

looks like you might need to do some bending get a torch and manipulate the tranny mount

Not gonna happen. I ppaid $500 for a set of headers. They should fit the car. I shouldn't have to make the car fit the headers.

Chris at Jet-Hot didn't reply to you at ALL? That is pretty uncommon, he is usually very good about things like that.

he has since replied, and we are working on a solution. I think the design needs to be changed in all honestly. It's nice that they hug the body for more ground clearance, but when it dumps right inline with the trans cross member and is about 3/4" too high to run a pipe from...the ground clearance, to me, becomes a non-issue.

what about getting an aftermarket tranny crossmember i think those have a smaller flange and no lip maybe that would give the clearance

still got hte bolt heads to contend with...and like I said, solving an install issue with a ready-for-market product should not include the words: big hammer, torch, bend, or the phrase "why not go buy..." unless these "adjustments" are spelled out to potential purchasers

if it was me i would just grind that lip off the cm i think that would clear enough space for them and i dont thin it will hurt the structural integrity of the cm

Thats pretty common for the Jet Hots....take a look at my pics. The problem is even worse when you have a Global West Track Link installed...the muffler guy had to make a mendral bend so that the piping would turn away from the tranny crossmember and clear the track link. I went with 2.5 inch tubing.

Actually, that won't be enough space.

I have dual 3" piping as well, with a cutout bolted to each header and an H-pipe. My mechanic grinded the cross member, but it still wasn't clearenced enough.

So he modified the flange on the driver's side cutout and got it to work. Took him awhile with the welder and torch but he did flawless work.

It is really tight in there. I wrapped the brake and fuel lines there with some heat shielding for protection.

I had the same problem with my install. It was a torch, grind and modify as needed sort of install. The price and quality of these headers are worth the fit issues. It's not perfect but it is workable and worth it in the long run. Grind or torch all you can off the trans cross-member then drive the car with open headers to an exhaust shop. A decent exhaust shop should be able to custom make or modify a y-pipe as needed to work things out.
