Best I could muster was a fluke .501. Best one prior was a .552.

What kinda lights are you guys pulling?

I try to pull a .52x to .53x running in street. I never had a .500. Lots of .50x's and of course the perfect red of .499. The key word is focus. Stage the car exactly the same spot and go on exactly the same key. I wear sunglasses all the time even at night. Where you stage and how the car launghes effects your RT. This Sunday I had a problem with the bird and ran the Trailblazer. This is how I adjusted for a better RT.

Run 1
Deep stage to just turn off the prestage light, all tires 45lbs, powerbrake to 1800rpm, and went on the 3rd full yellow .386

Run 2
Deep stage to just turn off the prestage light, all tires 40lbs, powerbrake to 1600rpm, and went on the 3rd full yellow .440

Run 3
Deep stage to just turn off the prestage light, all tires 35lbs, powerbrake to 1500rpm, and went on the 3rd full yellow .529
and won the round.

Run 4
same as run 3 but I was a little late on the light .567 (missed my mark) and lost the round by .0042.

By changing tire pressure and launch rpm I was able to "slow the truck down" to get my RT time out of the red light zone. I still staged the same spot and went on the same place on the tree.

i have had a few .500's, but never during eliminations. i have a ton of .50x's during elims though, on an average day i will sit in teh mid to high .52x's or right around .530. not the greatest i know, but it gets the job done most of the time.
one way to really mess with your reaction times is front tire air pressure. always set it in the same spot as soon as you get to the track.

Generally .52-.53. I time trials I will either forget about the tree or try to kill it depending on what type of message I want to send out.

The other end of the track is equally as important as the start. I won three rounds last Sunday due to breakouts...

Best RT for me so far has been .507

I generally cut .50X-.53X lights. Unless, I'm concentrating on new launch techniques or something. Then I don't care about the RT

My best raection time is one that nets me a win and is better than the opponents. Anything else doesn't matter. my average reaction time is usually in the .510 - .520.

My brother won a race with a .502 reaction to the opponents .503. He ran his dial with .005 and she ran her dial with .006. Margin of victory .002 sec. He has also lost a round with a .500 light. So a perfect light is not allways better.

You guys are all beating me, I mostly autocross and am fairly new to drag racing but my reaction times are in the .8xx's, I try to ease off the clutch too much because my car cannot get outa the hole! I have enough power but can't get it to the ground, I need to get some slicks.

I cut a .500 for the first time on Friday night You don't need great tires to cut a good light. If you are pulling .800s consistently, then I think you need to change your technique. Are you going as soon as you see the third yellow? If you are and are still .300 off, then try going simulataneously with the light (don't wait to see it). If that doesn't work, then try to go as soon as the 2nd yellow goes out. Etc. Etc. Just experiment. Good luck.

I've made 13 passes... in my life.

First 7 weren't anything to talk about, and resulted in shattered spider gears at the tree on run 8... to the tune of $1700.


Last Friday was the first time back. After 3 tuning runs, I picked up my first round win with a 0.523 R/T while running a 14.508 on a 14.500 dial in. A 0.031 total package!

Second round wasn't great package-wise. I ran a 15.0 @ 68mph... the opponant was WAY back so I was on the breaks pretty heavy. Although I did cut a perfect 0.500 on that run!

This "racing stuff" is kinda fun.

I'm with Rick. If you're that far off, you need to pick a different spot on the tree to launch at. Assuming you're on a standard tree (0.500s per bulb) you'll need to launch a bit more than 1/2 a bulb sooner.

I found the 0.523 above by launching when the third light JUST lite up. The 0.500 I ran (slip shows it was 18 minutes later) I left just as the second bulb went out. I know it sounds insane, but worked. Obviously your car will probably "load" different that someone elses, so don't hold me to the TIME to launch, just that adjusting between bulbs can be done.

I've also found that I ran MUCH better if I watch the tree light up for the race in front of me. Sort of a visulization technique I guess. Think of playing baseball and practising your timing on the picture while you're on deck. Same idea I guess.

There's no point in trying to tune your accuracy before you get some sort of precision established. My first two runs were 1.2xx and 1.1xxx Took 10 runs to get to the 0.5xx range... kinda lucked out with a perfect light on the 12th run (I don't think it's very typical to get one so soon, but I'm not much of a drag racer so I couldn't tell ya for sure). Worked for me I guess.
