Largest size wheels and tires for a 95 Z28?
Got a 95 z28 and want to put 17x9s and 255/40/17s front and 275/40/17s rear. Anyone have pics of what it will look like or info on whether it will require modifications?
The stock wheels on the SS and the WS6 coupes are 17x9" 50mm offset with 275/40-17's all the way around, so as long as your 17x9" wheels have the correct offset (sse "FAQ" for wheel width vs. offset recommendations), they will bolt on just like a set of stock wheels, with no modifications whatsoever.
The problem is putting the 255/40-17's in the front. That's only a 25.0" tire, compared to the 25.7" 275/40-17, so its going to look too small, open up the already too big gap between the fender and the tire, and give the car almost a 1/2" "rake", due to the front being lower than the rear.
If you want a narrower tire in the front, use a 245/45-17 (25.7") to keep the same outside diameter and sidewall height as the rear tires. Generally, if you want to run a narrower tire in the front, you would run a narrower wheel.
How about a 17x8.5" wheel in the front, and a 17x9.5" wheel in the back?
Or go all out and opt for a 17x9.5 front with the 275/40-17, and a 17x11.0 rear with a 315/35-17.
