Starter Solenoid

Re: Starter Solenoid
A wise man once told me that replacing just the solenoid is aking for trouble. Says if its old enough for the solenoid to go out, your starter is bound to be pretty close. Sounds pretty reasonable. Just get a whole new starter/solenoid.

Re: Starter Solenoid
If you have a late model starter housing (seems to be 1995 and up), it is possible. That is, if you can find a solenoid. You will be able to tell by whether your solenoid is held on by some male head torx bolts (from the rear of the housing).

I agree with the wise man. After 3 solenoids, I finally got wise and replaced my starter. Although, That was dealing with my truck.

Re: Starter Solenoid
Do a search under my username for 'starter'. Got my solenoid replaced for $32 bucks.

Edit- and shoebox isn't entirely right. My starter was a '94 style and all they did was drill out the holes around the starter and replaced them with small screws, similiar to the ones already found on the '95+ models.

Re: Starter Solenoid
cool! i thought so, the solenoid can be taken off via male torx bolts. i did end up getting a new starter for 116 from checker, i was dreading the $298 dealer item. the stater im pretty sure was fine. when i went to take off the power lead the stud broke. im talking about SMALL amount of pressure to get it to go that far.

Same exact thing happened to me Murray's sells rebuilt ones for 85 bucks, I guess I'll go that route, unless I can find somewhere locally that can fix it.

Which one are you at? I was going to go to the one at 12 and dequindre(close to my house) but they said it would be a day to get it in....but I see your location is Detroit, and this week I'm stationed out at Detroit City Airport....
