Shorty Header Installation Issue

This is my first post. I have an issue with the shorty header installation on my 1994 Z28. The headers are installed but when I try to screw in the new AIR injector tubes they do not screw in. The thread on the header and EOM exhaust manifold is 22MMX1.5 thread. The thread on the new AIR tube does not match up. (I am trying to find out what that thread is). The part# for the new tubes are 12550779(LH) and 10744578(RH). I want to keep the smog devices in place. I can not used the EOM tubes because they got pretty mangled when I tried to remove them from the exhaust manifolds. Has anyone ever had this issue and how do I correct it?

Re: Shorty Header Installation Issue

I have Pacesetter shorty headers. The headers are not the issue here. It is the new A.I.R. Injector tubes that have a different thread than the stock exhaust manifold and new Pacesetter headers. I have talked to the Chevy Parts Dealer and there is a second design tube for later cars (late 1994) that may fit my setup. I will keep you all posted. This will not happen until Monday 9/27/2004. Thanks for listening.

Re: Shorty Header Installation Issue

I have the 94 BBks for my 93 so i had to do some custom AIR intake....

Well, you have the two gold color um...i guess adapter things. (Im real techincal when im drunk at 3am) Screw those in. Then take the AIR Valves and screw them into the adapater.

Re: Shorty Header Installation Issue

I think they changed from inch to metric in the middle of a model year, thats's the reason for the confusion

Re: Shorty Header Installation Issue

Well after visiting the Chevy Parts Dealer, they determined that the threads on the new AIR tubes were ok. I brought my eom manifolds to them (dealer) and they were able to screw the tubes in. I feel like a jerk! When I got back home I again tried to screw in the AIR tubes into the Pacesetter shorty headers. I used the 7/8's line wrench crow's foot. I was only able to tighten them in half way. I ended up buying washers that fit inside the AIR exhaust bungs to fill the gap and reinstalled the tubes with success. I have talked with Pacesetter about this issue. They are investigating. Thanks for the responses I got from the message board. I'm sure I will be back as I will be making additional mods to my Zee.

Re: Shorty Header Installation Issue

I had the same problem with my Pacesetters.

The threads on the nut seem to be tapered and they get tight in the bore before the tube mates with the header tube seat.

I made some tube steel spacers about 1/2" long to ensure they were tight.

I still don't like it though. I always wonder about the seal.
