Possible Cam Upgrade?

Hey, I have been thinking about doing a possible cam upgrade this winter on my 1997 Camaro SS. I was looking at going with the CC503 but havent made a final decision yet. I was just wondering what you guys think I would have to all do when I upgrade the cam? Heads, lifters, pushrods, that kinda stuff? Its pretty much stock right now besides longtube headers. I just want to start planning here on what all needs to be done to do this. I just want a great street car, no racing of any kind. Thanks guys!

Re: Possible Cam Upgrade?

How many miles on the engine?

CC503 will work well with stock heads.

Stock lifters are OK, as long as they don't have very high miles. Otherwise, LS7 lifters. I would recommend 1.6X full roller rockers (self aligning); new springs (comp 918); new retainers and locks; new pushrods (should be 7.2", but check with push rod tool before buying); check timing chain for excessive play.

If you are looking for something more aggressive in the future, add 7/16" rocker studs.

PCM will need to be tuned.

Engine only has 49K miles and I appreciate your ideas. I just want a great street car. I haven't looked at prices for anything yet but how much I be looking at spending for all this? Just in parts, I will do the work.

Whats your goal? I'd talk to Lloyd Elliot and explain what you want down the line and go with a custom grind

Re: Possible Cam Upgrade?

My goal is to just have a nice street car. I'm not looking to make insane amounts of power, just a nice daily for the summer. That's why I figured on going with the CC503 so I don't have to mess around with the heads.

Re: Possible Cam Upgrade?

I had a 503 as my first cam, with basically stock heads...ran good. I have also been in a 306 cam only car (the big no no everyone says it will be sooooo bad...) ran great and made good power. Worth concidering, it has a really coppy idle and a big top end.
