Possible bad fan clutch?

Possible bad fan clutch?
New to the site. I have a 95 z and I don't drive it too often. Went to fire it up last week and smoke started coming from down by the fan clutch, after I had turned the a/c on while it was idling. Turned it off because I didn't have time to mess w it. Went out today to start it up again and no smoke! Turned the a/c on and all it did was blow hot air. Thinking it might be the fan clutch? Compressor? Not sure. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Possible bad fan clutch?
Do you mean the A/C compressor clutch? There is no clutch operated "fan".
Was the belt smoking because the A/C clutch was not free turning when the A/C was commanded off? Was the A/C switched on when this happened?
