Swapping v6 with LS1
hey guys. im somewhat new on this board. but im a regular over at camarov6.com
a buddy of mine has a couple LS1's in his garage. one of which he is selling to me.
he is asking 2200. this includes: Fully assembled motor, wireing harness, and transmission.
the engine came straight out of a 2000 SS Camaro with 20k miles on it.
he said there is nothing wrong with it, and its one of his best ones. the other two he is building up for himself.
one nitroused LS1 and one Boosted LS1.
this is a good deal i suppose. but in order to change from a v6 to v8, there has got to be some work involved. and quite a bit more money..
what would be needed to make this a successful swap?
if u wish you could include prices.
thanks.
OH..btw. i have a 96 RS Camaro.
thx

man, he is selling that cheap!, a new Ls1, just engine is $6000. I don't know about putting a new engine in, i guess your going to need new drive shaft and rear end, the whole drivetrain. and whatever you need for under the hood. Your going to have more money into it than 2200 but it would be worth it. Somebody might tell you that it is not possible to get an Ls1 into a bay meant for an Lt1, it might just be because of the hood, i don't know but it thought i remember someone saying that. If Iwere you,i would just look for a newer car, hect you can find 98 LS1's for under $12,000 now. so why spend $4000, on a drive train and get no gauntee or warrenty and do all that work and still end up with basically the same car when you could sell your car for $4000, take your Mod moeny and get a small loan and get a like new car.

Hello fellow FirebirdV6.com member
This site should answer a few of your questions.
Yes, an LS1 will fit into a 93-97 body style. Board members here have done it, there is no problem with hood clearance.
Ask Keith (Magnus) on FBV6.com what to do; he's swapping his 96 N20ed 3.8 out for an LS1. I believe you need a different gas tank as well (something about the fuel sending unit )
I guess if you can find a wrecked LS1 car and use that for a donor, that would be helpful to get all the other parts from.
Good luck!
