5.3 in a '99 Z28
I blew my car up in 2007 and I'm ready to get it back going. I want to build a 6.0 bad *** motor but for now thinking of throwing a junk yard (running) 5.3 in it while I build a motor. The real question I have is I still want the car to run well at least mid 12's, any recommendations on a good head n cam combo?

if your set on doing h/cam on the 5.3; at least get stuff that will work well on the 6.0l; when you build it. I mean, dont go too small on the heads or cam, but be prepared for it to be a bit more radical in a 5.3. that way your not spending twice. Unless you decide to go l76 stuff on the 6.0, and that wont work on a smaller bore motor (5.3).
as for running mid 12's, hell a stock 5.3 will do that with a drag radial and a converter, lid, and catback. So, if thats all you want, just build the 6.0 and dont touch the 5.3 after its in.

oh, I see you have a M6, the converter doesn't apply then. with a m6, you might need gears to make mid 12's, with the stock 5.3.
I could only run 12.8-9 at 109 with my formula when it was stock motored. but I had 3.42's. and the only mods were lid and a catback, and rear control arms. With a torque arm, panhard bar, drag shocks, gearing and an ok 60' you'll still run your goal with the 5.3.
I'd suggest investing in an aftermarket rear if you plan on tracking it quite a bit. Especially with a big/built 6.0 on the way.

Gears are a must my car came with 2.73's and since its not my only car anymore I'm thinking 4.11's. I'm not gonna leave the completely 5.3 stock, it'll at least have a cam, intake, and some ls6 or 2 heads (decked to bring comp back up). Do you know the difference between a ls6 and ls2 intakes?

Eh, my oppinion, if you're modding the 6.0, leave the 5.3 stock and put L92 heads on the 6.0 - Cheap and bang for the buck, moderate cam and you're instantly at 500 HP. You can't use the L92 heads on anything less than a 4" bore so they wont work on the 5.3L...
Edit: P.S. If you have the money to do heads/cam on a 5.3, why not just buy a 6.0L right now?
